Job Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible to lead the engineering resources in support of product development of driveline/powertrain systems and components. These resources include, but are not limited to, Product Designers, Program Managers, engineering facilities and testing facilities. Lead engineering team through all states of product development from concept to production and full product life cycle.

Responsibility

  • Provide resource allocation, manage priorities, and provide design and engineering status reports.

    • Create project plans to meet Linamar's Product Development Systems requirements.

    • Create and manage the budget for assigned projects.

    • Create and control engineering design documentation.

    • Assure quality of design, analysis, models and prints through established design reviews.

    • Maintain strong customer relationships and supplier contact both internally and externally.

    • Lead new business pursuit activity including quotes, presentations and technical reviews.

    • Manager training plans for engineering employees, as well as providing guidance for professional growth and improvement.

    • Manager and direct design development testing, design/production validation plans and testing analysis.

    • Lead simultaneous Product/Manufacturing Engineering teams to develop low cost/investment design and processes. Support Lean Initiatives.

    • Support manufacturing plant to resolve design and manufacturing related issues.

    • Utilize problem solving methods and disciplines such as 8-D and 6-Panel methods.

    • Conduct performance reviews and all other HR related responsibilities for direct reports.

Academic/Educational Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Technology OR equivalent AND minimum of 5-7 years of management experience.  Master of Science in Engineering or MBA is preferred.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Proven ability to handle customer technical meetings.

    • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork.

    • System and component engineering experience.

    • Experience with product & manufacturing technologies.

    • Driveline product engineering experience preferred.

    • Familiar with NVH development at vehicle and component level.

    • Computer-assisted design, manufacturing, and machining i.e. Microsoft Office, including Project, AutoCAD, SolidWorks.

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to communicate effectively to employees. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to customers, senior management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

    • Ability to comprehend and apply advance mathematics principles. Ability to work with concepts such as equations, limits, statistics and engineering tools.

    • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.), in its most difficult phases. Ability to apply and direct appropriate use of problem-solving methods.

    • Must be able to work under pressure, be willing to work with tight deadlines, be capable of multi-tasking, and can adjust to changing priorities.
