About You


Our Electrical Team is looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Designer for our Vancouver Island office. If you are an emerging professional with a solid technical foundation and an interest in growing your expertise in building electrical systems consulting and project management, we'd love to hear from you.

The Electrical Designer Role


Our Electrical Engineers-in-Training (EIT) and Designers work under the guidance and supervision of more senior team members in performing building electrical system upgrades in any one or a combination of the following areas: power distribution, lighting (indoor and outdoor), lighting controls, fire alarm, electric vehicle charging, solar photovoltaics (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS) and voice/data communication systems. You will need to interact directly with clients and work collaboratively with team members coming from various engineering disciplines and third parties in order to deliver effective, value-adding solutions. You will be in the process of acquiring general business insight as you start to get exposed to the different project stages, namely, response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), systems analyses, design, procurement services, and construction oversight.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in audits and site reviews of building electrical systems
  • Assisting with electrical analysis and design of various systems, including Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Demand Response Systems, Power Distribution Systems, Lighting and Lighting Controls Systems
  • Assisting with Electrical Planning Reports (EPRs) and Electric Vehicle (EV) Ready Plans, from initial site visit, through engineering analysis, and to completion of technical reports
  • Assisting in the preparation of design technical documentation using MS Office and AutoCAD applications
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical content in tender packages
  • Liaising with other teams in Prism, clients, building owners, architects, contractors, consultants, utilities, and building authorities

Qualifications and Experience


A combination of the following qualifications, experience, and competencies is considered a major asset:

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of direct experience in the field of building electrical systems design
  • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with EGBC, or eligible for registration
  • Skilled use of AutoCAD
  • A strong ability in written communications and an interest in technical report writing on the subjects of Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Demand Response, and Lighting Retrofit Opportunities
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code, BC Building Code, Vancouver By-Laws, and other applicable codes and standards
  • Ability to work with clients, building users, consulting engineers, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner and in a team environment
  • Effective reading and comprehension, oral and written communications in the English language


This is a 40-hour-per-week salaried position in a flexible, hybrid work environment. The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $85,000 annually. In determining your starting salary, we will consider your qualifications, level of experience and responsibilities, competencies, unique offering to our team, and how you compare with other team members who are in a similar position.


The role is primarily based in our Victoria Office, with an option to work from home on some days. The candidate must also be able to travel locally, with occasional trips to other BC communities and to provinces across Canada.
