Job Title: Engineering Supervisor
Job Description
The Engineering Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of a distribution design department, ensuring projects meet quality, budget, and schedule expectations while maintaining strong relationships with internal teams and external customers. This role provides both technical and non-technical leadership, manages project scopes and resources, and drives continuous improvement in workflows and business processes. The Engineering Supervisor also plays a key role in growing the business by ensuring efficient execution of current work and developing the capabilities of the project team.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and training in distribution design, offering one-on-one mentorship and guidance to team leads and individual contributors.
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain quality control standards for design services, deliverables, and products to ensure consistency and compliance with customer expectations.
  • Monitor and manage budgets and schedules for all projects and workflows using designated systems, ensuring work is delivered on time and within financial targets.
  • Develop and review conceptual project scopes, clearly communicate these scopes to multiple stakeholders, and prepare accurate cost estimates for projects.
  • Hold teams accountable to project estimates, schedules, and customer deadlines, and ensure change orders are issued promptly when scope changes occur.
  • Directly manage team leads and individual contributors within the department, providing clear direction, feedback, and support.
  • Collaborate with internal leads and customer representatives to drive and refine business processes, ensuring that workflow and workload remain efficient and effective.
  • Prepare written technical performance reports and deliver periodic presentations to management and project teams regarding project status, budgets, and performance.
  • Determine customer needs and work closely with both the customer and internal teams to ensure processes run smoothly and expectations are met.
  • Distribute workflow from the customer to internal leads for allocation to their teams, ensuring all projects are properly routed through the supervisor.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the customer on operational issues, addressing problems and inefficiencies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Resolve issues related to invoicing, resourcing, and staffing to maintain project continuity and financial accuracy.
  • Mediate and work out resolutions to disagreements between the customer and internal teams regarding processes and project issues.
  • Proactively address personnel matters, including hiring, termination, promotions, demotions, attendance issues, scheduling, and performance reviews.
  • Drive the training and development of team members through the leads, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office and customer-specific software and applications to complete project management, reporting, and communication tasks.
  • Supervise the work of the project team and take responsibility for coaching, performance evaluations, employee relations, and overall team effectiveness.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, blueprint reading, transformer installation, and underground design.
  • Strong skills in electrical design, CAD, distribution design, power distribution, and utilities.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering and managing distribution projects.
  • 4+ years of experience leading or supervising a technical design or engineering team.
  • Professional Engineering license, or the ability and willingness to obtain a PE license within an agreed timeframe.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or Construction Management (ABET-accredited).

The work environment involves using Microsoft Office and customer-specific software and applications for project management, reporting, and communication tasks. The role may require interaction with various internal and external stakeholders, necessitating effective communication skills and the ability to resolve operational issues efficiently.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $84.13 - $84.13/hr.
