Senior Engineer, Software Automation, based in Rockville, VA
A growing life sciences and medical technology company based in Rockville, VA, is looking for a full-time Senior Engineer, Software Automation to help design and program high-performance automation systems used in the assembly, inspection, and reagent dispensing of diagnostic products. This is a hands-on engineering role working closely with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance teams to support new product development and improve existing manufacturing capabilities.
This is more than just a software engineering role - you'll work at the intersection of software, automation, and hardware, helping build, integrate, validate, and troubleshoot systems that directly support the manufacturing of advanced diagnostic products. You'll have the opportunity to work with industrial equipment, robots, motors, controllers, sensors, and automation platforms while collaborating across multiple engineering and manufacturing teams.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in automation equipment software design
  • Experience with industrial robots, motors, controllers, and/or digital and analog sensors
  • 3+ years of programming experience with C#/.NET or another OOP language such as C++ or Java
  • OR 3+ years of experience with PLCs, Ladder Logic, or Structured Text
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline preferred
  • Strong software development and problem-solving fundamentals
  • Ability to work effectively in an Agile environment

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Hardware/software integration experience
