As Transportation Engineering Program Manager,
you will partner with multiple state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) to identify and solve complex road safety challenges using continuous pavement friction data. Working both independently and alongside WDM's Analytics team, you will liaise with clients, develop and deliver technical safety and pavement engineering solutions, and manage projects to ensure client expectations are met. Although a best practice for many transportation authorities around the world, WDM's data-driven approach to proactively improving pavement safety performance is new to the United States. As such, motivation to deliver additional value and "get it right" for clients is critical.

A successful Transportation Engineering Program Manager candidate will join a versatile, close-knit team, gain experience in multiple facets of safety and pavement performance analysis, and help shape the future of one of the world's leading predictive safety analytics firms.

Your Impact:

  • Scope client engagements and help clients define pavement safety performance needs, develop goals, and create programmatic roadmaps.
  • Lead projects that transform WDM's data into meaningful insights for DOT clients and coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Review agency specifications, standards, and policies related to pavement friction to inform and interpret analyses.
  • Facilitate communication and knowledge management efforts with key stakeholders and client executive leadership.
  • Contribute to the review and publication of innovative approaches, performance models, and decision-making processes that enhance pavement safety performance and network safety and efficiency.
  • Participate in industry forums and professional development events to stay current on research, industry trends, best practices, and emerging opportunities to deliver additional value to clients.
  • Contribute to internal strategic planning to align WDM's growth with changing national road safety practices.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience OR Master's degree with 3+ years of project or program management experience at a Department of Transportation or professional civil engineering services firm
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic, cost-effective, data-driven, and transformative transportation solutions
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools
  • Strong client management skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work, prioritize, and manage multiple projects independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across internal/external teams in a remote team environment

Desired
Qualifications:

  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Subject matter expertise in safety or pavement analysis
  • Proficiency in a programming language consistent with large-scale data analytics (R, Python)
  • Experience using geospatial software, such as QGIS or ArcGIS, in a non-academic setting

Position Details:

  • Pay: Starting at $120,000, salary based on experience
  • Benefits: Company-sponsored 401k, paid parental leave, paid professional development, PTO/paid leave, flexible work options, high-impact, collaborative work culture at a small but growing company
  • Job Location: Full-time remote; <25% travel; company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia
