Essential Job Duties
This position serves as an instructional link between the NC State University College of Engineering and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. The primary purpose of this role is the high-impact delivery of Biomedical Engineering (BME) curricula, ensuring that course objectives are met across both campuses in accordance with university calendars. Reporting within the joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, the incumbent will provide critical academic leadership in the classroom and laboratory, directly influencing the next generation of engineers through rigorous assessment, mentorship, and collaborative program development.
Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Excellence: Develop and deliver a comprehensive design experience based on the FDA Biologics approval pathway, maintaining a load of 2-3 courses per semester (4-6 per academic year) across both NC State and UNC campuses.  The anticipated course load is junior design and senior design each semester.  
  • Curriculum & Assessment: Design and execute student assessments-including exams, lab exercises, and projects-while ensuring all materials align with ABET accreditation standards and syllabus objectives.
  • Laboratory & TA Management: Oversee laboratory components to ensure content integration with lecture material; provide direct supervision and workload coordination for assigned Teaching Assistants.
  • Student Support & Advising: Facilitate regular office hours to provide academic guidance and actively participate in undergraduate advising and long-term curriculum planning.
  • Cross-Institutional Collaboration: Work productively across the NC State College of Engineering, UNC College of Arts and Sciences, and the UNC School of Medicine.

Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Biologics Design or related field.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to student populations.
  • Ability to manage course logistics, grading timelines, and laboratory coordination across multiple campus locations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working within a multi-institutional, departmental framework.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated track record of high-quality instruction and student engagement at the university level.
  • Proven technical skill and mastery across several target BME course areas (Biomaterials, Biomechanics, etc.).
  • Familiarity with the ABET preparation and reporting process.
  • Experience in formal undergraduate advising or curriculum committee service.
