Job description

General Assignments 
  • Responsible for developing and supporting welding and joining equipment and the interfaces to controls and robotics systems
  • Conducts Weld Excellence training program, includes, Basic Welding, T-Joint Weld, Flared Bevel Weld, Multi Pass Weld, Weld Symbol Terminology, and How to Read a Weld Map.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Designs, specifies, and assists in the fabrication, assembly, installation, and debugging.
  • Coordination and estimation of Change Request cost and tooling cost.
  • Process design.
  • Development of new production methods and techniques.
  • Develop weld control standards for new products and develop programs for all weld centers.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Direct the engineering department in the absence of the Engineer Manager.
  • Engages in safe practices as well as follows and enforces safety rules and job rotations.
  • Must be willing to report unsafe conditions, reporting unsafe acts, participating in safety/ergonomic committees, participating in safety Kaizen events, participating in Blue Sky initiatives, participating in safety audits, and participating in safety observation feedback events.
  • Assist the plant in achieving safety goals while achieving and maintaining Safe Workplace and Environmental and Sustainability AMS objectives.
  • Initiate timely investigations of all reported incident/accidents, injuries and timely completion of all 8Ds listing the “5 whys” and identify and document the root cause.
  • Attend all required training.
Attributes/Skills Required/Sought
  • Four-year technical degree is required or 10 plus years of applicable work related experience.
  • Background in FANUC MIG WELDING preferred
  • Automotive manufacturing experience strongly preferred and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • To perform this job proficiently a working knowledge of project management, machine automation design, programmable logic controllers and engineering software.
  • Good time management, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals. Acts as liaison between equipment suppliers and production personnel for new equipment trouble-shooting.
  • Teamwork - Balances team and individual responsibilities; Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; Gives and welcomes feedback; Contributes to building a positive team spirit; Puts success of team above own interests; Able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives; Supports everyone's efforts to succeed.
