Job description

Dana is a global leader in the supply of highly engineered driveline, sealing, and thermal-management technologies that improve the efficiency and performance of vehicles with both conventional and alternative-energy powertrains. Serving two primary markets – passenger vehicle and commercial truck equipment – Dana provides the world's original-equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket with local product and service support through a network of nearly 100 engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities.

Job Purpose
To lead and oversee all engineering and maintenance activities, ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. The Engineering & Maintenance Manager is responsible for developing and implementing maintenance strategies, managing capital projects, optimizing asset performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to support operational and business objectives.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in objective setting, plan development and performance review of plant performance.
  • Initiates, implements, and manages the plant maintenance program based on best practices in the heavy axle industry, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains a computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.
  • Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
  • Communicates regularly with all maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communications concerning maintenance issues.
  • Monitors operation of plant equipment and systems.
  • Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Tracks, analyzes and improves key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc.
  • Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.
  • Communicates directly with the Operations departments to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas.
  • Develop new or modify existing methods to manufacture products ensuring that such methods meet quality and production standards as well as health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Plan, prioritize and budget manufacturing engineering and continuous improvement projects for the plant.
  • Supervise and lead responsible salaried staff in the design, modification, vendor-selection, purchase and installation of new or upgraded equipment or plant facilities.
  • Supervise and lead responsible salaried staff in vendor evaluation, vendor accountability, capability and on-time delivery; and in commissioning equipment determining its safety, capacity and capability prior to production acceptance.
  • Supervise and lead hourly maintenance and die repair staff ensuring the efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness of their work.
  • Champion scrap reduction focusing on reducing part-related scrap, working with product engineering, production, suppliers and quality.
  • Meet or exceed annual business improvement targets.
  • Directly supervises Engineering and Maintenance staff.
  • Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training Engineering and Maintenance employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Work daily and weekend overtime as necessary.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications
  • Four-Year degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related Manufacturing field or equivalent experience in Engineering and Maintenance
  • Five years of experience in Engineering and/or operation of a heavy manufacturing facility.
  • Experience with repairs and maintenance of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic system.
