Job description

Job Title: Engineer I-Sr

Work Place Flexibility: Hybrid

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

· Responsible for performing a wide variety of planning, analysis, and project oriented engineering activities related to ensuring available capacity and risk mitigation within the electrical distribution system in accordance with the Entergy grid modernization strategy.

· Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Prepare and maintain the distribution five year plan and the Joint Transmission and Distribution component of the Transmission plan.

· Support Transmission Planning and Project Development on high-voltage project optimization.

· Serve as the Distribution Planning liaison to transmission project management, project design (Transmission and Distribution), and Asset Management Program Design.

· Provide technical support to distribution design engineers, operations, and managed accounts.

· Perform circuit coordination studies as required in concert with the distribution automation team.

· Maintain the SynerGi distribution system analysis model and run load flow analysis to proactively identify potential system issues and generate project proposals to address these modeled issues.

· Meet with large customers (internal and external) to determine electric needs, requirements, and ability to serve.

· Develop and maintain the Emergency/Contingency Switching Plans for the assigned area of responsibility.

· Work directly with customers proposing larger Distributed Generation additions to the system as the Distribution technical adviser.

· Participate in routine, non-routine, and emergency storm and outage event restoration duties.

· Role may also include cross-functional optimization with grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

· Monitor and maintain records of peak substation and circuit loads and perform annual load flow analysis with load forecasts for substation transformers, feeder circuits, and local loads.

· Perform annual overload, voltage, power factor and contingency studies.

· Develop and propose blanket and specific level substation and distribution normal load driven and N-1 contingency projects.

· Provide technical guidance to the Engineering Design Group, Operations and the Distribution Operations Center through the proactive development and maintenance of emergency/contingency switching plans.

· Provide project management for all planned improvements through the use of modeling, load tracking, and alternative analysis.

· Review and recommend for approval electrical system solutions that meet customer needs, comply with company standards and enhance the overall system performance and reliability.

· Participate in meetings with external customers, architects, developers, contractors and government entities to communicate standards and guidelines

· Perform engineering calculations to aid in planning and corrective measure projects.

· Assist with storm restoration efforts, both local and out of town, typically by serving as a Scout or Lead Scout in the initial stages of a storm restoration and provide technical and operational support and/or crew leadership in the later stages of the event.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial) from four year accredited institution.

Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

Minimum experience required of the position

Engineer I - 0 to 2 years experience in an engineering discipline. Engineer II - 2+ years experience in an engineering discipline. Engineer III - 4+ years experience in an engineering discipline.

Engineer Sr – 6+ years experience in an engineering discipline.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:

· Technical mastery of engineering principles.

· In-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards in responsible area.

· Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards.

· Ability to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner and understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service.

· Ability to respond to significant outage restoration events that may require a significant amount of time away from home via both on system and off system responses.
