About the Role

The Helper C supports on-site janitorial operations at an assigned CHA community. This is a bargaining-unit position covered by the SEIU Local 1 Collective Bargaining Agreement. It is also available as a Helper C Trainee classification for candidates building toward the full Helper C role.

Working under the direction of on-site maintenance leadership, the Helper C maintains the cleanliness, safety, and readiness of the property. This role ensures common areas, grounds, and vacant units are clean, orderly, and presentable for residents and leasing activity at all times. The ideal candidate is reliable, physically capable, and takes genuine pride in the buildings and communities they maintain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of all assigned areas including common spaces, grounds, and vacant units.
  • Perform snow removal with reasonable diligence to ensure safe access to buildings, garages, walkways, and exterior areas.
  • Place refuse in designated receptacles for waste removal. Keep waste areas orderly and sanitary.
  • Prepare vacant apartments for rental by sweeping, dusting, and completing general cleaning tasks.
  • Clean common areas including party rooms, laundry rooms, locker rooms, and other shared spaces on a regular schedule.
  • Clean plumbing fixtures, refrigerators, and stove units as required.
  • Wash windows as needed to maintain presentable conditions, excluding exterior windows above ground level.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, cleanliness concerns, or maintenance issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Complete assigned logs or checklists accurately when applicable.
  • Perform all duties consistent with the SEIU Local 1 Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform custodial and cleaning duties including cleaning common areas, vacant units, refuse removal, and snow removal.
  • Ability to perform physical labor including lifting, bending, standing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and properly use required safety equipment.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Must be eligible to join and maintain membership in SEIU Local 1 in good standing in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Must successfully complete the required probationary period.
  • Ability to work assigned schedules including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
