As an Electrical Controls Engineer at Interstates, you'll play a key role in developing and executing detailed, constructable control system designs for a diverse array of projects. We are looking for candidates with strong electrical experience who can apply their technical knowledge to real-world project challenges. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor peers, and build client relationships, ensuring that all deliverables meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. Core Responsibilities Consistent for All Levels:
  • Lead and execute project designs: Develop and oversee designs from concept through completion, ensuring technical accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project goals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Coordinate with internal teams, field staff, panel shop, clients, vendors, utilities, and regulators to ensure project alignment and clarity.
  • Facilitate site visits: Plan, conduct, and process site information to inform the design process or collaborate on commissioning and troubleshooting of control systems.
  • Delegate and manage work: Assign and track team member responsibilities, supporting on-time delivery and strong teamwork.
  • Client engagement: Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, prioritizing clear communication and feedback.
  • Mentorship and training: Mentor and support team members, fostering development and the sharing of best practices.
  • Ensure quality and standards: Uphold company, industry, and regulatory standards, including NEC, in all deliverables; participate in reviews and continuous improvement.
  • Leverage engineering software and EPLAN tools: Create, review, and update documentation using drafting and design tools, including EPLAN. Research EPLAN capabilities and emerging technologies by reviewing specifications, add-ins, and integration opportunities with other

Interstates systems and tools:
  • Maintain standards and SOPs: Maintain and update EPLAN standards, workflows, and SOPs by reviewing best practices and collaborating with design teams.
  • Train and develop the team: Train team members on new standards and procedures in coordination with the EPLAN team and other project leaders. Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in EPLAN practices for electrical systems.
  • Support team growth: Coordinate with leaders to develop the team's EPLAN skillset and assist in building examples of Interstates' EPLAN capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 2-8 years of relevant engineering experience, or a combination of education and hands-on work demonstrating required skills.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or FE certification; eligibility for or attainment of a Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred and required for senior roles.
  • Proficiency with electrical terminology, components, symbols, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Preferred Qualifications and Pluses For All Candidates:
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Familiarity with design-build, plan/spec, or design-assist project delivery.
  • Experience with EPLAN Electric P8 or similar electrical design software.
  • Familiarity with developing or maintaining EPLAN standards, templates, macros, or workflows.

Electrical Engineer II:
  • 2-4 years of experience in control panel design or project engineering.
  • Exposure to field work, panel shop, or prefabrication environments.
  • Experience using electrical design software to support project execution.

Electrical Engineer III:
  • 4-8 years of experience leading projects or technical teams.
  • Exposure to commissioning/startup activities and project troubleshooting.
  • Client communication or early business development involvement.
  • Experience training others on engineering software or design workflows.

Senior Electrical Engineer:
  • 7+ years of progressive experience, including managing complex projects or multiple design teams.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or obtainable.
  • Experience presenting to clients, conducting sales or site visits, or participating in industry associations.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor other leaders and drive strategic or process improvement initiatives.
  • Multi-state PE registration or advanced certifications, such as PMP or LEED, preferred.
  • Experience developing company standards, delivering training, or representing the company in professional groups.

Additional Nice-to-Haves:
  • Advanced experience in software modeling tools such as BIM, Navisworks, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with drafting software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or comparable tools.
  • Hands-on field work during installation or troubleshooting.
  • Involvement in estimating, budgeting, or project scoping.
  • Leading or participating in standards improvement or quality initiatives.
  • Contributions to STEM outreach, community engagement, or internal resource groups.

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $76,800 to $124,300+ benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by the experience and education required, and level of responsibility. The range posted for this role represents a range that Interstates, in good faith, believes it is willing to pay at the time of this posting. The pay is determined by job related skills, training, education, and experience.
