Job description

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following activities. Some duties may be optional on an individual basis. If there is a question about responsibilities or authorities, resolve the issue with the Director of Maintenance.

a) The lead will report directly to the Controls Engineer or Maintenance Supervisor in the facility for which they are assigned. For emergency manufacturing and maintenance support, the automation technician may receive direction from the director of maintenance or plant manager(s).

b) The lead will implement equipment and/or process improvements through the effective use of PLC's, servo or variable speed drives, camera technology, robotic technology and any other resource(s) available to him/her.

c) Daily communication and interface with suppliers will be required. This position is expected to effectively team with suppliers and original equipment manufacturers and will appropriately represent Tarkett.

d) Assist the maintenance staff in operational debug of machine controllers, motion systems, robotics, HMI's, and all other related components in a timely and efficient manner utilizing Tarkett standard techniques and approach.

e) The lead will train lesser experienced electricians and mechanics, thus improving the overall department skills and abilities.

f) Assist the appropriate engineer in machine validation, both internally and at the customer's facility while maintaining Tarkett work ethics and standards.

g) Communicate with the project "team" to ensure a constant level of project awareness.

h) The lead will work closely with the controls engineer, who is responsible for ensuring all schematics and/or back up programs of PLC's, HMI, camera systems, etc, are kept current and correct.

i) Attend certain technical training classes, as deemed necessary by the Maintenance Supervisor, Controls Engineer or Director of Maintenance, and pass this knowledge along to peers and/or electrical maintenance personnel.

j) The lead is expected to be a self-starter, stay focused and on task with little or no supervision.

k) The ability to conceptualize, design, build and implement simple to moderate control systems and manufacturing equipment.
