Job description

Position Summary

The Electrical & Controls Engineer is responsible for end-to-end design, programming, integration, and commissioning of systems that control machines and processes. This includes PLC/HMI programming, electrical design, and system validation on real equipment. Proficiency implementing, integrating, and programming B&R Automation and Rockwell automation industrial PCs, HMIs, PLCs, and other industrial controls utilizing various techniques including C/C++, structured text, and ladder diagrams is essential. The role will be responsible to work in teams and individually to execute a variety of projects in new product development, product improvement, engineer-to-order, and sustaining engineering. The position requires strong expertise in PLC programming, industrial controls, and electrical system design, with hands-on involvement from concept through field commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

· Design electrical controls and power circuits complying with applicable codes, standards, and regulations including but not limited to UL, CSA, NFPA, NEC and IEC.

· Create schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and BOMs using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.

· Develop, debug, and revise programs and software used in HMIs and machine controls across varying platforms.

· Manage UL regulatory compliance as needed.

· Select, implement, and program input/output devices, controllers, drives, and other devices common in industrial equipment and automation.

· Develop and implement best practices across all areas of responsibility and expertise.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university

· 3 years’ experience using B&R Automation Studio to develop applications on B&R industrial PCs and HMIs using C/C++, Structured Text, and Ladder Diagrams

· Experience developing HMIs using B&R mapp View or equivalent

· Familiarity with C/C++ or embedded real-time development

· 3 years’ experience using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical

· Experience troubleshooting machine applications in production environments

· Strong documentation and cross-functional collaboration skills

Additional Qualifications

· Experience with industrial networks such as POWERLINK, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, or Modbus

· Experience designing operator-focused HMIs for industrial equipment

· Experience with production data logging, MES, or analytics integration

· Experience with SQL and JSON data structures

· Experience programming Python

· Experience in food or sanitary equipment environments

Additional Requirements

· Ability to work collaboratively and execute tasks autonomously with transparency and integrity, incorporating multiple sources of input and aligning with consensus direction.

· Excellent English language communication (oral, written, and listening) and interpersonal skills.

· Team-oriented; able to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

· Able to troubleshoot, solve problems and quickly recommend solutions.

· Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds

· Able to travel 20% of the time.
