Position Title: Systems Engineer โ€“ Microsoft 365
Location:ย  Houston Texas

Reports To: Senior Manager, Technical Operations

Position Summary:ย  VoltaGrid is seeking a Systems Engineer โ€“ Microsoft 365 to own and evolve our Microsoft ecosystem as a core component of enterprise productivity, identity, and security infrastructure. This role is focused on engineering and architecture, not just administration. The Systems Engineer will design, implement, and scale Microsoft 365 solutions to support a rapidly growing organization operating critical infrastructure for energy and AI workloads.

Microsoft 365 is a foundational system at VoltaGrid, underpinning identity, communication, and secure operations across the company. This role ensures that our environment is not only functional, but secure, scalable, and engineered for the future. You will play a key role in transforming M365 from a set of tools into a strategic platform that enables operational excellence and security at scale.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Own the architecture, configuration, and ongoing evolution of the Microsoft 365 environment
  • Design and manage identity and access systems including SSO, conditional access, RBAC, and PIM
  • Implement and maintain security and compliance controls across M365 (Defender, Purview, audit readiness)
  • Lead endpoint and device management through Intune, including provisioning, compliance, and lifecycle management
  • Develop automation and integrations using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, and Power Platform
  • Optimize Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive environments with governance and lifecycle standards
  • Monitor system performance, usage, and security signals; proactively resolve issues
  • Develop documentation, standards, and operational playbooks
  • Partner with cybersecurity, IT, HR, and other teams on identity lifecycle and system integrations
  • Serve as a technical advisor on M365 capabilities, strategy, and adoption

Other Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience administering and engineering Microsoft 365 environments
  • Strong expertise in Azure AD / Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Intune
  • Experience with identity and access management (IAM/PIM)
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Experience implementing security and compliance controls within M365
  • Strong systems-thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Security-first mindset with understanding of zero trust and least privilege principles
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft E5 security and compliance stack
  • Familiarity with zero trust architecture
  • Experience integrating M365 with systems such as UKG, SIEM platforms, or endpoint security tools
  • Exposure to operational technology (OT) or critical infrastructure environments
  • Experience in high-growth or operationally complex organizations
