Summary:

Using exceptional business acumen, the Controller will successfully and proactively manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously following the client scope of work. Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all operational functions for our clients. Displaying leadership, the Controller will manage and support the work of internal client teams and provide professional training and motivation to team members, while acting as primary contact and team lead for assigned clients. Responsibilities will be carried out following Engine Room internal controls and processes and GAAP rules consistently.

Essential Job Functions:

โ€ข Review your own and othersโ€™ work for thoroughness and accuracy to ensure high quality client deliverables.

โ€ข Review full month-end close activities prepared by your team(s) and ensure compliance with GAAP rules.

โ€ข Own final work product, as defined in client Scope of Work (SOW), ensuring deliverables are completed on time and within budget.

โ€ข Serve as main interface with client audit teams.

โ€ข Prepare client consolidations, financial statements and budgets.

โ€ข Maintain compliance calendar for assigned clients and ensure deadlines are met.

โ€ข Develop and implement policies and procedures to streamline client operations

โ€ข Research and resolve accounting issues, proactivity identifying when technical assistance is needed.

โ€ข Review client payrolls while ensuring accurate and complete records are being maintained.

โ€ข Ensure adherence to appropriate accounting internal controls.

โ€ข Keep detailed and accurate records of client work in timekeeping systems for proper client billing.

โ€ข As necessary, perform month-end close, account reconciliations and other hands-on tasks.

โ€ข Participate in on-boarding of new clients.

โ€ข Assist in team recruiting efforts as needed.

โ€ข Perform other job-related tasks or projects as needed.


Qualifications and Skills (required to be successful):

โ€ข Ability to effectively collaborate in a dynamic environment often requiring toggling between responsibilities and/or clients

โ€ข Proactively and independently work on multiple projects with varying levels of complexity with little to no supervision

โ€ข Possess excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, including the ability to explain complex accounting issues

โ€ข Possess self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management skills in all aspects of work

โ€ข Possess a proactive and efficient mindset to maximize time and resources and meet the needs of clients and client teams

โ€ข Possess excellent problem-solving skills

โ€ข Solid MS Office Suite experience, including exceptional Excel skills

โ€ข Possess strong time management skills in order to deliver client work on time and on budget

โ€ข Effectively and proficiently manage, develop and motivate teams to produce high quality work


Education and Experience Requirements:

โ€ข Bachelor degree in Accounting or Business Administration

โ€ข Minimum 10 years of relevant experience

โ€ข Experience with expense management platforms


Education and Experience Preferred:

โ€ข Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred

โ€ข Experience in the life sciences industry

โ€ข Experience working on multiple clients simultaneously a plus

โ€ข Experience with the following platforms: NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, BILL, Expensify, Box

Physical Requirements:

โ€ข Remote or Telecommute work from home. Telecommuting employees have the choice to work in Corporate Headquarters. The company reserves the right to change the telecommuting portion of this policy at any time.

โ€ข Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
