Job Summary: The Senior Field Service Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, servicing, and repairing pumping and support equipment in a safe and efficient manner both on-site and at customer sites in the surrounding Batavia, NY areas. We are seeking a mechanically strong field technician with proven hands-on troubleshooting experience on engines and industrial equipment. The ideal candidate can perform basic diesel engine diagnostics (distinguishing fuel, oil, and cooling issues) and is comfortable working independently in the field, tracing problems from symptom to root cause. Direct pump experience is preferred but not required; we will train on pump systems and electrical specifics. Preferred backgrounds include automotive or diesel mechanics who want to transition into pump and field service work.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance and servicing as directed on pumps/fleet equipment between each rental.

  • Troubleshoot diesel engine, electrical systems and pump problems.

  • Rebuild diesel engines and pump ends.

  • Assist customer and/or Xylem personnel with setting up pumping systems on customer job sites as needed. Assist in the performance of start-up duties and ensure any problems are resolved.

  • Perform an initial inspection of pump fleet equipment for possible damages; diagnose damages; report damages to Service Manager.

  • Test all repaired equipment for proper operation and quality.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on Company vehicles and shop support equipment.

  • Perform diagnostic checks using computer technology.

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • 2-3 years of diesel experience and/or training or combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record

  • CDL B required

  • Diagnosing basic mechanical problems

  • Thorough understanding of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in equipment repair and maintenance.

  • Basic understanding of pump station electrical controls and monitoring devices

  • Safety practices and procedures

  • Basic mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues--preferred.

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; self-motivated and self-directed.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers and managers both verbally and in writing.
