Job description

The Port of Toledo, Oregon is searching for an experienced Outside Machinist to provide quality repair services and upgrades to vessels. The Portโ€™s shipyard services the region's commercial fishing fleet as well as charter and recreational vessels. This duties of this position include inspections, shaft and bearing alignments, engine installation, removing rudders and props and will fit and weld.

The Port of Toledo is a Special District in the state of Oregon which encompasses 443 square miles, including the cities of Toledo and Siletz, as well as a large area of unincorporated Lincoln County with facilities located along the Yaquina River. The Port offers a wide variety of services to develop, promote, and sustain the economic base of the area, including its shipyard, industrial leases, and recreational facilities.

The hourly salary range for this position is $25-$35 per hour depending on experience. The Port offers a generous benefit package including paid holidays, vacation and sick time; medical/dental/vision insurance with a HRA for out of pocket expenses; a $10,000 life insurance policy; and 457B deferred compensation retirement plan.

Summary of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Shaft and bearing alignments
  • Remove and install engines
  • Remove and replace rudders and props
  • Pump and motor alignment
  • Knowledge of fuel systems, plumbing & exhaust systems
  • Knowledge of proper rigging techniques
  • Ability to fit & weld
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent training & work experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years prior vessel maintenance experience
  • Able to lift 50 pounds regularly
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Oregon driverโ€™s license
  • Authorized to work in the United States
