About the Company
At General Matter, we're strengthening America's capacity in nuclear energy to create a new set of possibilities, from generating clean energy at scale to forging energy security.
With nuclear energy powering the next wave of American progress, we're ensuring our country has the fuel it needs for the next generation of reactors, no matter what's happening around the world.
We are backed by top tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production. We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability and transparency.
About This Role
General Matter is looking for an experienced IT Manager with strong knowledge and experience across IT technologies to support our growing site in Paducah, KY. The IT Manager will oversee the company's IT systems, implement best practices, and drive technology initiatives that align with our business goals. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our infrastructure scales as we grow while maintaining security, efficiency, and reliability. The ideal candidate will be flexible and flourish in a fast paced and challenging environment and will exercise a high degree of responsibility for the processes, systems, and tools you create and manage; all supporting the goal of ensuring the country has the fuel it needs to power its nuclear reactors.
Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with General Matter engineers to gather requirements, research, evaluate, design, plan, deploy, and support Microsoft enterprise software platforms and related technologies in a world-class environment that meets the needs of the demanding General Matter engineering teams.
  • Manage and maintain highly resilient, high-performance, scalable, and flexible systems.
  • Make recommendations, justify, and implement improvements using an accepted change control methodology.
  • Work within diverse groups to design and deliver creative solutions and resolve problems in a timely and proactive manner by interacting with internal business units.
  • Define, document and follow standards and best practices for systems design, testing, and implementation.
  • Responsible for the health of the IT core infrastructure:
  • Ensure uptime of critical systems to the business
  • Drive improvements to optimize security and performance of the infrastructure
  • Build automation at scale to improve overall efficiency

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering discipline with 3+ years of systems administration experience; OR 5+ years of professional systems administration experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with servers in physical and virtualized environments.
  • 5+ years of experience with Active Directory, Kerberos, Entra ID, and multi-platform authentication/identification environments
  • 5+ years of experience (including the ability to setup, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot) with Windows-based systems and services in both physical and virtual environments.
  • 5+ years of experience in monitoring mission-critical enterprise environments

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Expertise in creating repeatable, reliable, scalable systems architectures, with high availability, fault tolerance, performance tuning, monitoring, and statistics/metrics collection.
  • Understanding of developing web, python, Powershell, and bash scripting applications and build processes.
  • Experience with linux administration.
  • Experience with automation platforms (Ansible, Salt, Chef).
  • Networking experience in IPv4, IPSEC VPN, SSL-VPN, SD-WAN, switching, routing, firewalls and HA architecture.
  • Comfortable working with mission critical and sensitive systems, with a sense of urgency appropriate to the responsibilities.
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal situations.

Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
