Job Description Role Title: Energy Supply and Generation Location: Vaughan/Toronto/Oakville (Hybrid) Work Term: Permanent or extended contract Electricity Gas and Combined Cycle Natural Gas Hydroelectric Nuclear Renewable Storage / Distributed Energy Biomass About IESO The Independent Electricity System Operator, or IESO, is a government agency in Ontario responsible for managing the province's electricity system. It ensures that supply and demand for electricity are balanced in real time and that the power grid operates reliably and efficiently. The IESO also runs Ontario's electricity market, where electricity is bought and sold, and helps plan for the province's long-term energy needs.

This includes forecasting electricity demand, acquiring new energy resources, and integrating renewable energy and emerging technologies into the grid. The organization works with a wide range of stakeholders, including utilities, energy companies, municipalities, and Indigenous communities, to support a reliable, sustainable, and affordable electricity system. The IESO is headquartered in Toronto and plays a key role in shaping Ontario's energy future.

Key Responsibilities Supporting the design, development, procurement and commissioning of electricity generation resources, including renewables (solar, wind, hydro), storage systems, and conventional plants. Conducting technical and commercial evaluations such as performance modeling, cost estimation, financial pro-forma development, and contract negotiations. Managing procurement processes and program frameworks-competitive bids, auctions, RFPs, standard offers-and administering contracts for generation and ancillary services.

Engaging with multiple stakeholders-internal planning, legal, market, Indigenous affairs, external developers, government bodies-to guide project development and regulatory compliance. Overseeing project teams, external consultants, project schedules and budgets to ensure timely delivery and quality standards. Preparing detailed reports, presentations and recommendations on market rules, procurement outcomes, policy and system adequacy-supporting strategic energy system planning.

Qualifications and Skills Required Education and experience typically include a university degree in engineering, economics, or business 6-10 years in electricity generation, market systems, procurement, or power system planning within Ontario's utility sector (including renewable and conventional sources) Some experience with wholesale market operations, energy procurement processes, system planning, or utility-scale project development Possess familiarity with Ontario's energy policy, regulatory environment, and the roles of key institutions like the IESO, OPG, and the Ontario Energy Board Why It Pays to Be an Energy Supply and Generation Expert Tackle complex, high-impact projects shaping Ontario's future power landscape.
