Job description

Because of expansive growth American Power & Gas is seeking an Energy Risk and Portfolio Analyst to add to our technical team. This is a fulltime permanent on-site role.

The Energy Risk and Portfolio Analyst will be an integral part of the Risk and Portfolio Management team responsible for power and natural gas portfolio hedging, power scheduling, Renewable Energy Credit tracking, and pricing and rate analysis. The candidate will have strong knowledge of SQL and database architecture, as well as PowerBI, VBA and other analytical platforms. The candidate must have a general understanding of the energy commodity markets.

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the North American energy markets.
  • Participate and lead process developing rate structures for power and gas groups.
  • Collaborate with Director of Risk and Portfolio Management, Power Portfolio Manager and other analysts to do thorough analysis of power and gas positions, pricing structures for customers and other ad-hoc analysis.
  • Perform analytical research to provide innovative solutions to problems areas or necessary rate or operational changes.
  • Monitor power and natural gas portfolio to ensure data quality for costing, power scheduling, transactions and other impacts to our business.
  • Understand contract details, fees, rates, and payment schedules to ensure accurate estimation of payables and receivables.
  • Develop an understanding of the ISO/RTO markets in North America.
  • Oversee rate pricing for power and natural gas businesses.
  • Assure optimization of the power portfolio, particularly referring to scheduling, costs, renewable energy credits, capacity, and congestion products.
  • Provide support to the risk team with cross training, ad-hoc reporting, audit inquiries, and process improvements.
  • Identify, recommend and implement process improvements around settlement and accounting and other operational processes.
  • Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with trading and reporting standards and other compliance requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business Management is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, critical and economical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, grasp complex issues, and be detail oriented.
  • The ideal candidate will be a driven, self-starter with a solid understanding of US power markets and the load serving responsibilities with 2-3+ years' experience.
  • Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills are critical, as well as a solid foundation with Excel, SQL, PowerBI and VBA.
  • General understanding of energy commodity markets and regional power system operators (e.g. PJM, ERCOT, NYISO, ISO-NE, etc.).
