Position Overview: The Energy Delivery Specialist is responsible for the safe, timely, and compliant delivery of refined fuels, propane, lubricants, and related energy products to agricultural, commercial, and residential customers. This role operates commercial motor vehicles requiring a Commercial Driverโ€™s License (CDL) with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements and ensures adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations including the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).The Energy Delivery Specialist represents the cooperative in a professional manner, prioritizing safety, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and exceptional customer service.Key Responsibilities: 1. Delivery Operations: Responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely transportation and delivery of refined fuels, propane, lubricants, and other energy products to agricultural, commercial, and residential customers throughout the cooperativeโ€™s service territory. This includes conducting pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of tanker trucks and related equipment in compliance with FMCSA and DOT requirements. Verifies product type, quantity, and delivery location prior to transfer, ensuring proper placement and preventing cross-contamination. Operates pumping systems, meters, valves, and hoses to safely transfer product while continuously monitoring tank levels during delivery. Performs visual and mechanical leak checks on hoses, fittings, valves, meters, and connection points before, during, and after product transfer, immediately reporting irregularities, pressure loss, or suspected leaks in accordance with cooperative policy and regulatory requirements. Accurately completes and submits fuel delivery tickets, customer order tickets, billing documentation, and compliance records in a timely manner to support prompt and accurate customer billing. Maintains professional communication with the Energy Director, Energy Administrator, and customers, particularly during peak agricultural and seasonal demand periods. This position requires the ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to operational needs during evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned. Must be available to support customer service demands, emergency response situations, and time-sensitive operational requirements associated with energy delivery, installation, and safety-related service calls. On-call responsibilities may include after-hours travel, extended work periods, and response to urgent customer or facility issues in accordance with cooperative policy. (25%) 2. Installation & Service: Assists with and performs installation, setup, and service of bulk fuel tanks, propane tanks, pumps, meters, regulators, hoses, and dispensing systems at customer and cooperative sites. Responsibilities include coordinating tank placement, assembling and connecting equipment, ensuring proper grounding and bonding, and conducting pressure testing and leak checks prior to system activation. Performs routine service and preventative maintenance such as replacing worn hoses or fittings, tightening connections, and troubleshooting minor mechanical or meter irregularities. Supports environmental protection efforts through spill prevention practices, secondary containment awareness, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. (25%) 3. Compliance & Risk Management: Maintains safety-sensitive operational compliance with DOT, hazardous materials transportation regulations, and OSHA safety standards. Requires active CDL licensure with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements and participation in required drug and alcohol testing programs. Follows hours-of-service regulations, inspection requirements, and hazardous material documentation procedures. Reports accidents, spills, leaks, near misses, or environmental concerns immediately per cooperative policy. Participates in ongoing safety and job required trainings, uses required personal protective equipment, and supports a proactive safety culture by identifying hazards and recommending safety improvements. (15%) 4. Customer Service & Teamwork: Supports customer retention and cooperative growth by delivering reliable, professional, and responsive service to existing and prospective energy customers. This includes identifying business opportunities, supporting cooperative energy product promotion, and assisting with service expansion opportunities such as tank installations, equipment upgrades, or additional product offerings. Build and maintain positive customer relationships by monitoring tank usage patterns, communicating refill or service recommendations, and responding promptly to customer needs. Customer interactions must demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, safety awareness, and accountability. Supports cooperative-wide operations by assisting other departmentsโ€”such as grain, agronomy, and seedโ€”during peak seasons, staffing shortages, or special projects as operationally needed. Contributes to operational improvement by sharing feedback and supporting workflow efficiency. (15%) 5. Equipment, Facility & Inventory Maintenance: Performs daily inspection, cleaning, and preventative maintenance of trucks, trailers, pumps, hoses, meters, storage systems, and related delivery equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Maintains cooperative facilities and work areas in a clean, organized, and operationally safe condition. Duties may include basic facility upkeep, site organization, minor repairs within competency, snow removal, grounds maintenance, and reporting significant maintenance needs. Assists with records and monitoring and control of energy products by performing tank level checks, reconciling physical product levels with system records, and participating in periodic inventory counts and product reconciliation activities to support accurate asset accounting and minimize product loss. (15%) 6. Other: Contributes to additional company and team efforts, projects and initiatives as needed. Other duties as assigned. (5%) Education:Required โ€“ High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience:Preferred โ€“ Prior energy delivery, fuel transportation, or related operational roles is preferred but not required; on-the-job training will be provided for qualified candidates. License/Certification:Required โ€“ Valid Driverโ€™s License.Required โ€“ CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements.Required โ€“ DOT Medical Certification required and must be maintained in compliance with FMCSA regulations.Required โ€“ CTEP certification for propane delivery and cylinder filling, required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
