Fervo's Powerblock team is the engine that converts contracted geothermal capacity into energized, revenue-generating plants. Powerblock owns the path from queue entry to commercial operation - and that path is growing more complex as the company scales. The Energy Associate serves as the analytical backbone of that effort: the professional who monitors queue status, builds the models that quantify integration cost and schedule risk, and converts regulatory and grid research into actionable judgment for the broader organization. This role offers the opportunity to build deep technical fluency in interconnection and grid processes while producing analysis that directly shapes project decisions and company outcomes.

 This is an analytical position within the Powerblock group, focused on interconnection queue tracking, integration cost modeling, and regulatory research. The Energy Associate is responsible for maintaining an accurate, current view of queue status and study risk, and for producing analysis that Strategy, Development, Finance, Legal, and external counsel rely on to make informed, timely decisions.
 

The Interconnection Landscape: Most of this role's complexity lives in the interconnection process. Candidates are not expected to arrive as subject-matter experts; success requires the curiosity and rigor to build fluency quickly, and the analytical discipline to translate that expertise into value for the broader organization.

Responsibilities

Track and Analyze the Interconnection Queue

• Monitor interconnection queue trackers - including milestones, study deadlines, and cost estimate revisions - and proactively flag changes that affect project timing or cost.
• Synthesize transmission availability, congestion data, and capacity release notices to identify integration risks early and inform mitigation strategy.
• Translate interconnection study results into the risk-matrix format used to brief senior stakeholders across Development and Finance.

Drive Analysis

• Build and maintain financial models that quantify integration cost sensitivities and schedule risk, in close partnership with the Strategy and Development team.
• Research and evaluate FERC policy developments, transmission planning initiatives (including Order 1920), and state-level clean energy requirements, assessing implications for active projects.
• Gather, structure, and analyze supporting data for evaluations of offtake structures and commercial terms tied to grid access timing.

Strengthen How the Team Works

• Design and continuously improve the trackers, playbooks, and milestone frameworks that underpin the team's analytical infrastructure.
• Identify knowledge gaps and develop scalable solutions - templates, checklists, and shared references - that make the team's analysis repeatable and audit-ready.
• Serve as a primary point of coordination with external interconnection counsel, transmission providers, and independent engineers on data requests and study milestone confirmations.

Qualifications

Required

• 2-4+ years of professional experience in energy development, power markets, project finance, management consulting, or a related field.
• Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, energy policy, STEM, or a related field.
• Demonstrated analytical rigor, with the ability to build and maintain models, trackers, and frameworks that stakeholders across the organization rely on for decision-making.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, with experience managing large, complex datasets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill technical or regulatory material into clear, actionable guidance for cross-functional partners.

Preferred

• Exposure to ISO/RTO interconnection processes, FERC regulatory proceedings, or transmission planning, or a demonstrated ability to develop this expertise quickly.
• Experience building financial models or analytical frameworks within a fast-paced, high-growth organization.
• Familiarity with data visualization or business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, Python) is a plus, though not required.
• A demonstrated track record of elevating how a team analyzes and manages risk - through stronger models, sharper analysis, or more rigorous documentation.

Location

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX, with growing offices in Golden, CO, Reno, NV, and Oakland, CA, and Salt Lake City, UT. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Houston office is preferred.
