General Job Description

The Mortgage Loan Officer markets and originates loans to be sold on the secondary mortgage market or be considered for portfolio. Determines appropriate mortgage product that fits the needs of the member. Responsible for business development, origination of loans, and relationship management with members and clients.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer inquiries and referrals that are generated from both their own contacts and from other MCCU business channels.
  • Conduct interviews with prospective borrowers to analyze financial and credit data, determine member financing objectives, advise members of product/pricing policies and guidelines, and gather any additional required information to complete an application.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service by maintaining thorough knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional ethics, complying with all Federal and State compliance policies.
  • Review and monitor Mortgage Law and Regulations changes on a regular basis. Incorporate changes into daily procedures and determine how the new law/regulation affects other aspects of their duties.
  • Follow policy and procedures that are put in place by the VP of Mortgage Origination.
  • Respond to all phone calls and emails in a timely manner.
  • Ensure exceptional customer experience by overseeing loan process from origination to close and providing on going communication to customer and business partners
  • Achieve production goals as established by MCCU
  • Must have knowledge of software and hardware necessary to conduct business in a credit union environment, including, but not limited to: multiple line telephones, fax machine, voicemail, Outlook based electronic mail and calendars, E-Fax, Windows, Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) Symitar, Calyx, Webcaster, Encompass, Optimal Blue and the Internet.
  • Flexible with respect to duties, scheduling, and periodically complete duties that may be outside their normal job description.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with both co-workers and members by actively embracing and demonstrating MCCU's culture, known as IMPACT.

Essential Job Requirements

  • Texas Mortgage Loan Officer License preferred, but not required.
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience as a Mortgage Loan Officer
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Provides friendly, prompt, professional and accurate service and support to all members and associates
  • Maintains a dependable record of attendance and timeliness. Ability to work evenings and weekends if needed.

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
