Job description

Orthopedic Navigator

TRIA is looking to hire an EMT, LPN, or MA Navigator to join our orthopedic team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day.

Position Summary

The Navigator is a multi-skilled healthcare professional who collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers to optimize health, wellness, activity and participation of patients and clients across age and care continuums.

The Navigator will utilize broad-based skills in patient care, ancillary services, and business office practices, always upholding all aspects of customer service and patient care. The Navigator will be responsible for the coordination of care for all patients in their department and will interact across the enterprise to facilitate necessary services as determined by the Physician in accordance with PNHS standards and policies.

The duties of the Navigator working across TRIA's clinics depending on scope of their credential may include: clinic appointment check-in, insurance verification, co-payment collection, standard rooming, history and evaluation, diagnosis, clinical procedures, medication preparation, post-operative management, wound care, casting, splinting, DME fitting and application, triage, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation, after visit and pre-procedure education, documentation/scribing provider assessment and plan in real time, patient care management and communication including coordination of care across the enterprise, scheduling, patient paperwork coordination, care coordination and patient discharge.

Required Qualifications

We are open to filling this position with an LPN, MA, or EMT. Requirements for each are outlined below:

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing. Must maintain a current state license of practical nursing MN and WI. One or more years of nursing experience is desirable (preferably in a related field of medicine). Current BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required and maintained. On-line BLS certification is not acceptable.

Medical Assistant (MA): Graduate from a Medical Assisting program accredited by "The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). One or more years of experience desirable (preferably in a related field of medicine). Current BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required and maintained. On-line BLS certification is not acceptable.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): High school diploma or GED and current BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required and maintained. On-line BLS certification is not acceptable. Graduate of an accredited EMT program and current MN & WI EMT License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong clinical and human relations skills are required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing and maintain standards of clinical skills and professional ethics as established by the NATA and BOC.
  • Basic computer/keyboarding/mouse skills required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and ensure safety of patients.
  • Can make autonomous decisions regarding patient care related issues and be able to make independent decisions based on scope of practice and protocols established with their physician.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, critical thinking and organizational skills. Team player that collaborates to achieve highest outcomes.
  • Proficient use of athletic training apparatus related to area of expertise.
  • Safely and effectively operate the following: Various Health Testing Equipment (depending upon specialty area), Personal Computer, Photocopier, Printer, FAX Machine, and Telephone.
  • Proficient in work processing, electronic medical records, PACS (radiology software), ECG, dynamap, defibrillator, and various Orthopedic and Sports Medicine tests/equipment/braces/splinting.
