As of Jun 12, 2026, the average hourly pay for emt prn in the United States is $20.40, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.07 and $22.60 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you work PRN as an EMT?

Yes, EMTs can work PRN (as needed or per diem) shifts, which offer flexible scheduling without full-time commitments. PRN work typically requires maintaining certification and being available for emergency or scheduled calls, depending on the employer's needs.

What jobs make $10,000 a month without a degree?

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) PRN typically does not earn $10,000 a month; however, some high-paying roles in sales, real estate, or entrepreneurship can reach that level without a degree. These jobs often require specialized skills, certifications, or experience and may involve variable schedules or commission-based pay. Most high-earning roles without a degree are in sales, trades, or business ownership rather than healthcare positions like EMTs.

What is an EMT PRN job?

An EMT PRN (as-needed or per diem) job involves providing emergency medical care on an as-needed basis, rather than a fixed schedule. EMT PRNs respond to emergency calls, assess patients, provide basic life support, and transport individuals to medical facilities. They typically work in ambulances, hospitals, or event settings and must have the required EMT certification. This role offers flexibility in scheduling but may not guarantee consistent hours.

What does PRN mean for EMT?

For an EMT, PRN means 'pro re nata,' a Latin term indicating that the position is on an as-needed basis. PRN EMTs work irregular or part-time shifts, often filling in for full-time staff or during peak times, and typically do not have a fixed schedule or benefits. Certification in emergency medical services and flexibility are important for PRN roles.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) working PRN (as needed) typically do not earn $2000 a day; their pay depends on hours worked, location, and experience. High-paying roles in healthcare or specialized fields such as travel nursing, anesthesiology, or certain consulting positions can reach or exceed this daily rate, often requiring advanced certifications and significant experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Emt Prn position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EMT PRN (as-needed Emergency Medical Technician), you need a strong grasp of emergency care, patient assessment, and life-saving procedures, typically supported by EMT certification and up-to-date CPR credentials. Familiarity with ambulance equipment, patient transport protocols, and electronic patient care reporting systems is common. Excellent situational awareness, quick decision-making, and calm communication skills help EMT PRNs excel, especially when working irregular or on-call shifts. These skills ensure you can provide timely, effective pre-hospital care and adapt to varied and urgent situations.

What is the typical work schedule and team structure for an EMT PRN position?

As an EMT PRN, your schedule is generally flexible and based on the needs of the employer, meaning you may cover shifts during weekends, nights, or holidays as needed. You’ll often work alongside other EMTs and paramedics as part of a close-knit team, responding to emergency calls and transporting patients. This role is ideal for professionals who want to supplement their hours or gain varied field experience, but it requires adaptability and readiness to work on short notice. Team collaboration and clear communication are essential, as you rely on your colleagues in critical situations to provide optimal care.
