Job description

Overview

This position provides high-quality service and basic, pre-hospital, patient care and transportation in a professional and caring manner.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Assesses each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
  • 2. Utilizes medical equipment to assess patient and carry out basic life support functions.
  • 3. Safely operates Company vehicles at all times.
  • 4. Ensures that seat belts are appropriately used when driving, and that the passenger is appropriately using seat belts.
  • 5. Ensures that patient is properly secured in the stretcher.
  • 6. Develops and utilizes triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
  • 7. Assists paramedic or nurse with the preparation of advanced life support equipment.
  • 8. Provides patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
  • 9. Ability to effectively represent the Company when communicating in English with clients, customers, and the general public.
  • 10. Communicates with receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information.
  • 11. An electronic Patient Care Record (ePCR) must be completed and submitted by the end of each shift for each patient. Trauma ePCRs must be submitted within an hour of patient delivery to ED.
  • 12. Compassionately communicates with patient and loved ones to provide information and assurance that care is being given, and to show compassion.
  • 13. Acts as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed.
  • 14. Keeps current on all required licenses and certifications.
  • 15. Communicates with dispatcher to receive and understand call data and customer feedback.
  • 16. Monitors and maintains the general condition of the unit, keep it clean and stocked for optimal call response to maintain the image of the Company.
  • 17. Documents activities completely to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call.
  • 18. Performs other related duties as assigned. .
  • 19. Participates in community programs to maintain Company image and establish strong community relations.
  • 20. Participates in quality assurance activities and as an experienced EMT, may assist in the orientation and development of new employees.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

EXPERIENCE

Some previous healthcare work experience is desirable.

LICENSURE

Must possess current state EMT Certification, current CPR Card, valid Driver's License, driving record in compliance with Company policy regarding insurability.
