Job description

Cataldo offers a robust training program designed with new EMT-B’s in mind and is committed to a quality training and onboarding experience through our new onboarding program. Given the mix of contracts and communities we serve, Cataldo is the top destination for EMT’s who are looking to gain experience in both the 911 and inter-facility transfer lines of care.

The EMT-B is responsible for providing the safe and efficient response, treatment, and transport of all people requesting or requiring emergent or non-emergent medical services. Primary role includes assessing patients, administering basic life support, operating ambulances and documenting care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver quality patient care in accordance with clinical policies, statewide protocol, and standards of care
  • Assessing injuries/illnesses and providing basic life support (BLS) on scene and during transport in accordance with statewide treatment protocols.
  • Attend to all patients in a courteous, professional manner
  • Operate the ambulance in accordance with safety rules and regulations; company policies; federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and statutes
  • Complete a vehicle and equipment checklist at the beginning of each assigned shift. Inspect and clean the assigned vehicle and all equipment. Ensure compliance with minimum stock requirements, proper function, and cleanliness of all equipment
  • Accurately record patient care, ensuring completion and submitting required paperwork and PCR documentation as required on a daily basis.
  • Provide appropriate documentation of patient intervention in the pre-hospital setting
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with minimal supervision using good judgment, common sense, and leadership ability.
  • Have and maintain a thorough understanding of the principles of emergency medical services at the basic level.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with patients, EMS Agencies, physicians, hospital personnel, emergency service providers, fire department personnel, and the general public.
  • Attends all mandated company training functions as required and submits proof of completing equivalent training to the company in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines at all times.
  • Maintains all required certifications as an active EMS provider and supplies valid copies of all certifications and driver’s license prior to their expiration dates
  • Must maintain a reliable attendance record
  • Perform daily housekeeping duties at all assigned bases of operation
  • Completes other duties as requested and assigned

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Current MA Basic EMT certification in good standing by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Public Health (DPH), Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS).
  • Current BLS / CPR healthcare provider level certification, including SAED Authorization.
  • Current valid driver’s license

Experience:

  • 2-4 Years of prior experience preferred
  • 0-1 years related work experience required
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in situations in which the information or problems are relatively routine.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment while working in a stressful environment
  • Previous driving experience in a commercial setting a plus
  • Commitment to providing exemplary customer service

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to meet the essential duties and physical, mental and sensory requirements of the position at all times.
  • Comply with UDS drug screening at any and all times
  • Satisfactory background check and MA CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), verification required annually.
  • Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, verification required annually.
