Phlebotomist, PCA Lake Otis, Full-time

Primary Care Associates

Salary Range: $15.50-$28.00 hourly

Schedule: Monday through Friday. Shift schedule varies, 7:30AM-4PM; 8:AM-4:30PM, 8:30AM-5PM

*This laboratory position can be filled by a phlebotomist, EMT, or medical assistant, and it requires a working knowledge of phlebotomy, specimen processing, audiogram, pulmonary function test, eye exam, EKG procedures, urine collection for drug screens, and physical ability testing. *

Your Role at PCA:

As a Phlebotomist at PCA you will collect specimens from patients, (i.e. blood, urine) and ensure maintenance and upkeep of instruments and supply room.

What Youll Do:

  • Perform phlebotomy from patients and understanding of proper patient identification methods.
  • Instruct patient on special procedures such as fasting requirements, routine urinalysis, stool specimen and 24-hour urine collection.
  • Evaluate specimens for integrity and verify proper specimen labeling.
  • Verify patient demographic and insurance information in Electronic Health Record system to ensure proper patient identification.
  • Ability to communicate with patients when answering questions and provide useful information.
  • Complete all necessary test requisitions for in-house and reference lab.
  • Ability to adhere and observe universal precautions while working with patients and processing specimens.
  • Calibration of audiogram and pulmonary function machines each morning prior to patient testing.
  • Ability to explain eye examination, EKGs, pulmonary function test, audiogram, drug screen testing procedures to patient.
  • Monitor patient and instrument while test in progress.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and paperwork for employer services and private patients.
  • Maintain back-office equipment in a clean, safe condition and according to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Respect patients rights to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Maintain appropriate communication and good interpersonal skills with manager, staff, providers, and patients to ensure coordinated efforts and provision of high-quality service.
  • Communicate directly with the department supervisor/manager to report concerns, personal requests, and patient issues.
  • Maintain an orderly and professional working environment.
  • Report to work properly dressed according to approved dress code.
  • Adhere to guidelines concerning scheduled working hours and break periods.
  • Participate in education programs needed for recertification, departmental meetings, and workshops as offered.
  • Demonstrate and provide support to other colleagues by offering help.
  • Assist in the solution of problems as directed by supervisor.
  • Weekly supply inventory to ensure enough quantity will suffice the department needs.
  • Verify department supply deliveries with packing slips.
  • Stock supplies upon receipt.
  • Perform related work and other duties as required and assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in a fast-paced, professional environment such as clinic, hospital or laboratory is preferred. A combination of relevant education, and/or training may be substitute for experience.
  • Associate degree from a university or community college
