Job description

Position Summary
The CDL Class A Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of metal and aluminum products to customers. This includes loading and securing materials, performing pre- and post-trip inspections, maintaining DOT logs, and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company regulations. Drivers must communicate with dispatch, warehouse teams, and customers to ensure deliveries and exceptional service.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities 
The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee with this job title.
  • Operate company trucks on public roads to transport, load and unload materials to EMS customers
  • Operate vehicle in compliance with all local, state, federal and company driving regulations
  • Backup trucks safely, navigate narrow passages, and maintain control in varying road conditions, including wet or icy highways
  • Complete logbooks and vehicle inspection reports in accordance with DOT standards
  • Inspect required equipment (brakes, tires, lights, load securement devices, etc.) to ensure safe operating conditions prior to departure
  • Review shipping papers to verify load details and special handling requirements
  • Ensure loads are properly secured, chained, strapped, and tarped according to DOT cargo-securement standards and company requirements
  • Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of the truck
  • Wear required PPE/safety equipment when handling materials
  • Report delivery issues, damaged goods, or shipment discrepancies immediately
  • Keep tarp clean, neat, folded, and secured on trailer
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Experience/Skills/Abilities Required
  • Valid CDL Class A driver's license
  • Preferably 3 years of recent experience operating a 53ft tractor trailer
  • No more than one major traffic violation within the past 5 years
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy material up to 75 lbs.; climb on and off a flatbed trailer
  • Strong understanding of load securement, especially for metal products
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and maintain accurate records
  • Good communication and customer service skills
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Most of their time will be spent driving and loading/unloading goods and materials
  • Significant physical activity including lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
  • Generally, the job requires 50% driving, 30% walking, and 20% standing
  • May be required to work in a variety of weather conditions
