How much do emi design engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 10, 2026, the average yearly pay for emi design engineer in Baltimore, MD is $87,589.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $67,600.00 and $97,900.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How does an EMI design engineer typically collaborate with other engineering teams during product development?

As an EMI Design Engineer, you will work closely with hardware, PCB layout, and mechanical engineering teams throughout the product development cycle. Your primary role is to identify potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues early on and recommend design modifications to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Collaboration often involves reviewing schematics, participating in design reviews, and coordinating EMI testing with the broader engineering team to troubleshoot and resolve complex interference problems. This cross-functional teamwork is crucial for integrating EMI solutions without impacting product performance or timelines.

What is the difference between Emi Design Engineer vs EMI Engineer?

Common Search IntentDesigning electronic components, circuit developmentReducing electromagnetic interference, testing EMI

Emi Design Engineers focus on creating electronic systems and components, ensuring they meet design specifications. EMI Engineers specialize in testing and mitigating electromagnetic interference to ensure product compliance. While both roles require electrical engineering knowledge, Emi Design Engineers are more involved in the design process, whereas EMI Engineers focus on testing and compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EMI design engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as an EMI Design Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) principles, and circuit design, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with simulation tools like CST Studio Suite or Ansys HFSS, and certifications such as iNARTE EMC Engineer, are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills help engineers address complex interference issues. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring products comply with regulatory standards and function reliably in electromagnetic environments.

What is an EMI design engineer?

An EMI Design Engineer is a professional who specializes in managing and mitigating electromagnetic interference (EMI) in electronic systems and devices. Their work involves designing circuits, components, and enclosures to ensure compliance with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards. They use simulation tools, perform tests, and develop shielding or filtering solutions to prevent unwanted electromagnetic disturbances that could affect device performance or safety. EMI Design Engineers often work closely with hardware engineers and compliance teams throughout the product development process.

Job description

New Tech Global is looking for a Project Electical Engineer for a client in Hanover, Maryland.

As a Project Electrical Engineer (industry equivalent: Electrical Engineer 4), serve as a vital member of an aerospace and defense engineering team-an engineering center of excellence within a dynamic, global enterprise. Within the organization's advanced technologies group, you will be responsible for performing diverse activities associated with the development and implementation of complex power and control systems for unique underwater robotic and electromechanical systems, helping solve customers' toughest challenges-typically for the U.S. Navy and other U.S. Government Department of Defense customers.

QualificationsEssential
  • Bachelor of Science or advanced degree from an accredited university in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field with an electrical concentration (e.g., Computer Engineering or Robotics Engineering). Significant commensurate experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years of practical technical experience in the electrical engineering process, including concept development, analysis, simulation, design, drafting, assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and testing of complex electrical, electromechanical, and automated/robotic systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government Department of Defense security clearance (active clearance preferred but not required).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred
  • Experience selecting and integrating high?tech Commercial Off?the?Shelf (COTS) equipment, including designing required interfaces.
  • Strong working knowledge of selecting and sizing electrical and electronic components and wiring devices such as signal conditioning, power supplies, control and switching devices, SSRs, safety devices, terminal blocks, connectors, DIN rail components, wiring, cabling, and marshalling.
  • Experience with embedded microprocessor or single?board computer (SBC) based control systems, including defining signals, sensors, actuators, and selecting appropriate I/O; ability to design custom solutions when COTS options are insufficient.
  • Experience designing and integrating data communication systems including Ethernet, USB, RS?232, RS?422, RS?485, SPI, I2C, CAN, and associated protocols and media, particularly in high?noise environments.
  • Experience designing DC power systems and calculating system power and energy requirements.
  • Experience with wiring, grounding, shielding, and EMI/noise mitigation practices.
  • Strong electrical drafting skills, including accurate creation and interpretation of schematics, wiring diagrams, cable drawings, block diagrams, and system cabling diagrams.
  • Proficiency with standard electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, communication analyzers, hipot testers, spectrum analyzers, CTDR, OTDR, and optical power meters.
  • Experience with advanced CAD, simulation, and analysis tools (e.g., Altium Designer, SPICE, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical, MathCAD, MATLAB).
  • Proficiency with standard office productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and present engineering concepts to both technical teams and customers.

Additional Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in the marine industry (surface or underwater), including ROVs, AUVs, sonar systems, and related robotic/electromechanical platforms.
  • Working knowledge of industry, professional, and military standards (IEEE, ANSI, IEC, ISO, NEMA, NEC, MIL, etc.).
  • Strong hands?on technician skills (assembly, wiring, soldering, and cabling).
  • Experience with fiber optics.
  • Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) design.
  • Experience with brushless motor drives, robotics, and automation.
  • Experience designing, analyzing, and tuning closed?loop control systems.
  • Experience with low? to medium?voltage single? and three?phase power systems (120, 240, 480, 3000+ VAC).
  • Experience applying machine safety systems and standards.
  • Experience with programming languages or scripting.
  • Ability and flexibility to travel occasionally (typically one to two weeks at a time), domestically or internationally, including offshore vessel deployments.
