What is an EMC salary?

An EMC salary typically refers to the compensation earned by employees working at EMC Corporation, a company now part of Dell Technologies that specializes in data storage, cloud computing, and IT management. Salaries at EMC vary widely depending on the role, experience, and location, but are generally considered to be competitive within the technology industry. Common roles at EMC include software engineers, sales representatives, and IT specialists, each with its own salary range. Benefits often include health insurance, retirement plans, and performance bonuses. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, candidates should refer to salary surveys or job postings specific to EMC or Dell Technologies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EMC engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EMC Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, knowledge of electromagnetic theory, and experience with compliance testing standards. Familiarity with EMC test equipment, simulation software like CST or Ansys, and relevant certifications such as iNARTE EMC Engineer are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you identify issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These skills ensure products meet regulatory standards, function reliably, and avoid costly delays or recalls.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in EMC engineering roles?

One common challenge in EMC engineering roles is keeping up with constantly evolving regulatory standards and compliance requirements across different industries and regions. EMC engineers often work cross-functionally with design, testing, and manufacturing teams to ensure products meet these standards, which can lead to tight project timelines and the need for effective communication. Additionally, troubleshooting complex interference issues requires both deep technical knowledge and creative problem-solving skills, making continuous learning essential. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams is typical, and adapting to new technologies or methods is important for career growth in this field.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

As part of the talented Rivian product development team, you will engineer structural components employed on R1, R2 and R3 platform products - designing solutions that balance often conflicting attributes: performance, cost, safety, reliability, manufacturability, timing and/or aesthetic. • Own BOM cost and mass for responsible parts.
  • Coordinate DFM studies including tooling investment for responsible parts. Work closely with manufacturing to deliver a quality capable design that can be produced at rate for the right cost to meet program goals
  • Create engineering release documents (such as 2D drawings, Critical Function Document, DVP).
  • Contribute to risk management activities DFMEA, design feasibility and design validation action items.
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to develop engineering solutions that meet requirements for vehicle crash, durability, and NVH.
  • Work alongside Body Structures and Energy Storage teams to develop tightly integrated solutions meeting vehicle attributes as well as pack EMC, grounding, venting, sealing, and thermal management.
  • Work closely with down-stream teams to develop solutions supporting state of the art manufacturing processes as well as best in class quality, reliability and service

Qualifications
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of Industry (or equivalent) experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, owning a component such as a battery enclosure/structure, chassis subframe, motor/inverter housing, and/or body structure components.
  • Industry (or equivalent) experience in developing solutions for complex cross-functional engineering problems (sealing, EMC shielding, structural durability, crash performance) while also managing costs and timing
  • Experience in component or subsystem testing
  • Experience working with suppliers is considered a plus.
  • Strong structural engineering foundation - first principles / design think mind set
  • Automotive OEM/supplier experience, university race team a plus
  • Good collaborative and teamwork skills.
  • Motivated by curiosity to challenge convention and continuously ask "Why?" in pursuit of clear understanding
Passion to evolve and improve your own skills and capabilities as well as those of others around you.
