Job description

About Us
Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive's next chapter. From operating systems to zonal controllers to cloud and connectivity solutions, we're addressing the challenges of electric vehicles through technology that will set the standards for software-defined vehicles around the world.
The road to the future is uncharted. By combining our expertise across connectivity, AI, security and more, we'll map a new way forward. Working together, we'll create a future that's more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone.
Role Summary
We are seeking a seasoned, hands-on EMC Test Technician to join our EMC team supporting component and module-level EMC/EMI Control validation for automotive electronic systems. This role is foundational to our product quality pipeline - ensuring automotive ECUs meet OEM-specific EMC requirements prior to vehicle integration.
The ideal candidate brings 3-7years of direct, bench-level EMC testing experience in the automotive sector - with deep, practical fluency in ISO 11452, ISO 7637, and the OEM-specific test specifications governing major vehicle manufacturers. We will consider candidates with equivalent experience from Aerospace (RTCA DO-160 ), Defense (MIL-STD-461), or consumer electronics (IEC 61000 series) environments, provided they can demonstrate substantive knowledge of automotive EMC test methodologies and a credible path to OEM standard fluency.
This is a pure individual contributor, bench-level technician role. No direct reports. High ownership. Maximum hands-on impact.
Core Responsibilities
Test Execution & Setup
  • Set up, configure, and operate EMC test equipment for full suites of component and module-level immunity and emissions testing per applicable automotive standards.
  • Execute Radiated and Conducted emissions (RE/CE) testing per CISPR 25 and OEM emission specifications.
  • Execute Radiated Immunity (RI), Bulk Current Injection (BCI), direct power injection (DPI), and conducted immunity testing per ISO 11452 series.
  • Perform transient pulse immunity testing per ISO 7637-2, ISO 16750-2, and OEM equivalent pulse libraries (Pulses 1, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 4, 5a, 5b).
  • Execute ESD testing per ISO 10605 and IEC 61000-4-2 as required by OEM test specifications.
  • Configure, operate, and maintain LISN setups, current probes, injection clamps, CDN networks, and antenna systems.
OEM-Specific Specification Compliance
  • Execute and interpret test requirements per Volkswagen (VW) TL 81000 spec, including applicable waveforms, frequency sweeps, monitoring parameters, and pass/fail criteria.
  • Maintain working knowledge of current OEM specification revision levels and flag impacted test plans when specification updates are released.
Instrumentation & Equipment Operation
  • Operate and configure EMI test receivers and spectrum analyzers.
  • Configure signal generators and RF power amplifiers for immunity test signal chains.
  • Set up and validate antenna factors for biconical, log-periodic, horn, and monopole antenna systems.
  • Operate and maintain ISO 7637-2 transient pulse generators and OEM transient test profiles.
  • Operate ESD simulators per applicable network configurations.
  • Execute and document system validation checks (antenna calibration, chamber correlation, ALSE validation, BCI calibration) to confirm measurement system integrity.
EMC Test Software & Automation
  • Operate EMC test automation platforms including TILE! (Test Systems Inc.), Python and LabVIEW-based custom test sequences, or equivalent platforms.
  • Configure test sequences, frequency plans, and dwell parameters in automation software per test plan requirements.
  • Verify automated test setup outputs against manual baselines to confirm data validity.
  • Troubleshoot automation anomalies, flag software/hardware interface issues, and implement corrective actions.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Generate accurate, complete, and professional EMC test reports suitable for direct customer (OEM) submission without engineering re-work.
  • Document test configurations, setup photographs, equipment calibration records, ambient verification data, and pass/fail determination with appropriate technical rigor.
  • Maintain detailed test logs, non-conformance records, and DUT condition notes throughout test campaigns.
  • Support internal engineering teams with root cause data, frequency-domain plot interpretation, and retest documentation following DUT modifications.
Lab Support & Equipment Stewardship
  • Perform routine calibration checks, preventive maintenance, and equipment health verification on lab assets.
  • Maintain calibration due-date tracking and coordinate with external calibration providers in support of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and operationally ready lab environments including cable management, antenna storage, ground plane maintenance, and chamber cleanliness.
  • Identify equipment failures, degraded performance indicators, and measurement anomalies; initiate corrective action and document findings.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • iNARTE EMC Technician or Engineer Certification (or active progress toward certification)
  • Experience supporting A2LA or NVLAP laboratory accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025 - including participation in audits, corrective actions, and method validation activities
  • Experience with EV/HEV high-voltage component EMC testing (CISPR 12, UN ECE Regulation 10, SAE J551 series) - increasingly relevant as product portfolio electrifies
  • Experience with antenna measurement / OTA (Over-the-Air) testing for vehicle-integrated antenna systems
  • Familiarity with EMC pre-compliance / diagnostic techniques - near-field probing, time-domain troubleshooting, common-mode current measurements
  • Practical RF shielding and filtering knowledge sufficient to support product debug conversations with design engineering
