Job description

Position Summary

The DAC is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Seamstress / Tailoring Specialist to oversee garment alterations, repairs, and custom sewing projects for members, club leadership, and select departments. This position requires exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to maintain the highest standards of quality consistent with a premier private club environment.

The ideal candidate will possess advanced expertise in tailoring, garment construction, fabric selection, fitting techniques, and luxury garment care. This role works independently while collaborating with members, management, and departmental leaders to ensure all projects are completed professionally and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform expert alterations and tailoring on men's and women's garments, including formalwear, uniforms, and specialty apparel.
  • Conduct fittings and provide recommendations for garment modifications to ensure proper fit and appearance.
  • Design, construct, and modify custom garments, accessories, and specialty textile projects as requested.
  • Repair and restore high-end fabrics, delicate materials, and luxury garments while preserving original quality and craftsmanship.
  • Alter and maintain club uniforms for staff across all departments.
  • Measure, cut, fit, and sew garments using industrial and specialized sewing equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of fabrics, threads, and tailoring supplies.
  • Coordinate with department managers regarding uniform requirements and replacement schedules.
  • Ensure all work meets exceptional quality standards and reflects the club's commitment to excellence.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sewing and fitting workspace.
  • Handle member garments and personal items with complete confidentiality and discretion.
  • Assist with special events requiring costume preparation, linen modifications, decorative sewing, or custom textile projects.
  • Track work orders, fitting schedules, and project completion timelines.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of professional tailoring, dressmaking, or seamstress experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of garment construction, pattern alterations, fitting techniques, and fabric properties.
  • Experience working with luxury apparel, formalwear, bridal garments, uniforms, or custom clothing.
  • Proficiency operating industrial sewing machines, sergers, pressing equipment, and specialty tailoring tools.
  • Strong understanding of fabric care, garment finishing, and quality control.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Professional communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with club members and executives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal education or certification in Fashion Design, Tailoring, Garment Construction, or a related field.
  • Experience in a private club, luxury hospitality, resort, or high-end retail environment.
  • Knowledge of embroidery, decorative stitching, and custom textile fabrication.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and prioritizing deadlines in a service-focused environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move garment bags, fabric rolls, and sewing equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity required for detailed sewing, cutting, pinning, and fitting tasks.
