This is a project-based employee role supporting the initial development phase of our autonomous vehicle platforms. Development phases of this nature typically span up to project completion (typically 2–4 years), though scope and duration are driven by business needs.

JOB SUMMARY

The Electrical Engineer III is responsible for designing, integrating, and validating low-voltage electrical systems used in ASI's autonomous vehicle platforms. This role focuses on component selection, wire harness design, and system-level electrical integration to support the reliable operation of robotic vehicle systems.

As a Level III engineer, this position leads subsystem-level electrical integration efforts, collaborates closely with mechanical and embedded software teams, and supports testing and validation through hardware-in-the-loop and field testing activities. The role plays a key part in ensuring ASI's autonomous platforms operate safely and reliably across diverse operating environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, select, and integrate electrical components used in low-voltage vehicle systems
  • Develop and maintain detailed wire harness designs using tools such as Zuken
  • Lead electrical integration efforts for assigned subsystems across autonomous vehicle platforms
  • Perform hardware diagnostics and validation using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN communication tools
  • Collaborate with embedded software and mechanical engineering teams to ensure successful system integration
  • Conduct validation using hardware-in-the-loop systems and support vehicle field testing activities
  • Work closely with vendors and purchasing teams to evaluate and procure electrical components
  • Identify integration challenges and troubleshoot issues discovered during testing or field deployments
  • Document electrical designs, validation results, and integration procedures using version control and documentation tools such as Git or EPDM
  • Contribute to engineering reviews and ensure designs meet safety and compliance requirements
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on subsystem integration activities

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 5–10 years of experience designing and integrating electrical systems for vehicles, robotics platforms, or complex electromechanical systems
  • Strong understanding of low-voltage vehicle electrical systems (typically under 60V)
  • Experience designing and documenting wire harness systems
  • Proficiency with electrical design and integration tools such as Zuken or similar platforms
  • Experience using hardware diagnostic tools including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN communication tools
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and basic firmware concepts
  • Experience using version control systems such as Git
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills when working with cross-functional engineering teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience working with autonomous vehicles, robotics systems, or heavy equipment platforms
  • Experience supporting hardware-in-the-loop validation and field testing activities
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer or similar electrical design tools
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers and managing component procurement
