Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking embedded software engineers in Rochester NY to work on a dynamic team to design, develop, integrate, and test embedded controls for Airborne Imaging systems.  They will work in a cross-functional team to develop, test & produce EO/IR solutions.

Candidate will work closely with cross functional members of the engineering organization to develop and evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and operational performance requirements and design of the overall system.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, develop, implement and test sensor control software
  • Utilize published OMS, UCI, XML Schema, reference designs & other standards for product development
  • Utilize MS Visual Studio, QNX, Linux, & XMLSpy development tools
  • Perform debugging and unit testing of software products
  • Perform system modeling, simulation and analysis on complex software
  • Conduct independent technical investigations of considerable complexity to improve system performance or solve difficult system requirements issues
  • Coordinate with other functional engineers to develop and test products; resolve compatibility and interface problems with other subsystems
  • Interface with other departments to participate in specification, design, code, and test reviews
  • Follow internal process to ensure proper conformance to established policies and procedures
  • Provide timely production support and problem resolution
  • Produce timely status reports and projections
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions
  • Review literature and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects
  • Evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 0 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Control system modeling using Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with embedded security and encryption
  • Video transport and encoding (H.264, MISB and SMPTE standards)
  • Video processing algorithms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a technical information environment
  • Working knowledge of Bash/Python, Intel x86/ARM/FPGA/SoC, GPP, GPU, Embedded System Design, Release Engineering, Understanding of Change and Configuration Management, Debug/Trace Analysis, Real-time Operating Systems like VxWorks/LynxOS/Integrity, SELinux, Software Integration, Test, and Verification/Validation
  • Ability to work well across multiple engineering disciplines
  • The ability to understand and work with Network storage as well as an understanding of Gigabit Ethernet or InfiniBand.
  • Experience interacting with software development throughout the design cycle including major design reviews and architecture reviews.
  • Experience with Hardware and Software integration and test
  • DevSecOps and Test automation experience using Python or similar languages
  • 3+ years of embedded development,
  • Experience with APIs/BSPs/Drivers, OpenGL, health and status
  • Programming for Linux, Windows & QNX operating systems
  • 3+ years' experience with C++ systems development with understanding of Software/Hardware co-design, distributed systems design, and software/computer architecture.
  • 3 + years' experience with avionics lifecycle execution.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York state is $74,500 - $138,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
