Job Description

ProSidian Consulting is seeking a talented and motivated software engineer with interest and experience in design and implementation of database-centric system architectures.  The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in the design and architecture of databases and caching layers embedded in enterprise products, possess good communication skills, and enjoy problem solving both independently and in team settings.  This position will assume responsibility for the relationship between ProSidian Consulting and its federal government clients who seek support with supporting database schemas, including the performance, maintainability, reliability, integrity and security of all databases delivered as part of ProSidian Consulting's IT Effectiveness and Business Process Solutions.

This position is a contract position.  All work shall be performed at the contractor's site, with the possibility of client meetings at the client site.

Qualifications

The candidate will work within a Software Engineering team and be expected to:

Requirements:

         Design/redesign databases and schemas, create stored procedures, views, triggers

         Leverage knowledge of existing database platforms and frameworks to evaluate and recommend new technologies, including database ORM/caching layers.

         Take ownership of policies and procedures that the ProSidian Consulting uses related to managing data and adjust accordingly based on feedback and observation.

         Develop database performance benchmarks and optimize database performance through new features/technologies and refactoring.

         Continuously re-evaluate the infrastructure for opportunities to improve all databases embedded in database solutions.

         Construct and maintain database upgrade and patch process in conjunction with system upgrades.

         Debug and diagnose complex database problems (e.g. deadlocks, etc.)

         Coordinate with front end application developers to complete application development from back end perspective

         Provide training, leadership, and mentoring to development, QA, and support personnel.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

         BS/MS in CS with 5+ years' experience in SQL database-backed system design and architecture

         Familiarity with entity relationships, referential integrity, and cardinality concepts are desirable.

         Experience with database caching/ORM technologies such as Hibernate

         Experience with distributed transaction (XA) technologies

         Experience with Java EE

         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

         Willingness to learn new things

 

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

         Experience with other transactional Relational Database Management Systems

         Experience with commercial Business Intelligence solutions

         Experience with database replication environments, high-availability configurations

         Experience with techniques such as clustering and sharing

         Experience planning, programming, testing, and maintaining web-based applications

         Experience with Amazon AWS

         Experience implementing database systems for the federal government
