What is an embedded software engineer?

Embedded Software Engineers design, develop, and optimize software that runs on specialized hardware or embedded systems, such as microcontrollers or IoT devices. In the context of relocation, this job may require moving to a particular city or country where the employer's development center or project site is located. Companies often support relocation by assisting with moving expenses, visa processing, and settling-in services. Relocating can offer exposure to new technologies, cultures, and professional growth opportunities. It's important to inquire about the specific relocation package and support provided by the employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an embedded software engineer?

To thrive as an Embedded Software Engineer, you need strong proficiency in C/C++, real-time operating systems, microcontroller architecture, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with tools such as debuggers, oscilloscopes, version control systems (like Git), and often certifications in embedded systems or IoT are highly valued. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating across hardware and software teams. These skills ensure robust, efficient, and reliable product development in complex embedded environments.

What are the common challenges faced by embedded software engineers when relocating for a new position?

Relocating as an Embedded Software Engineer often involves adapting to new company processes, development tools, and hardware platforms, which can vary significantly between organizations. Additionally, engineers may need to quickly build relationships with cross-functional teams, such as hardware engineers and quality assurance specialists, to ensure seamless product development. Job description

Software Developer is critical to S1 Technology's continued growth and development as a full scope service provider for our clients. The SDAI team sits at the intersection of software, data, and AI, and is a key driver in how we differentiate ourselves in the market.

You'll have the opportunity to build something meaningful, shape the direction of this critical division, and directly impact both our customer and company's future.

This is not a remote opportunity. This is a 100% onsite position based in Louisiana. If you are outside of this area with no plans to relocate, your application will not be considered.

What You'll Do
  • Own end-to-end delivery of SDAI projects, ensuring work is completed on time, within scope, and aligned to clear business outcomes
  • Translate client needs into scalable technical solutions, architectures, and actionable project plans, while serving as a trusted advisor in client engagements
  • Establish and enforce development standards, documentation practices, and QA processes to ensure consistency and high-quality delivery
  • Introduce tools, frameworks, and automation to increase team efficiency and align SDAI operations with S1's broader managed services model
What You Bring
  • 3+ years in software development as a full-stack developer
  • Strong experience with:
    • Application development (web, API, or backend systems)
    • Integrations and automation (APIs, middleware, scripting)
    • Full-stack engineering
    • Cloud Infrastructure
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and priorities
What Success Looks Like
  • Projects are delivered on time, scoped correctly, and profitable
  • Contributes directly to new revenue and expansion within existing clients
  • Clients clearly understand the value delivered (not just the technology)
  • Operates with structure, accountability, and high standards
We Are Looking for Someone That:
  • Loves solving hard problems and never stops learning.
  • Balances confidence with humility.
  • Owns your work and takes pride in getting it right the first time.
  • Enjoys mentoring others and improving team performance.
  • Believes technology should make life better - not harder.

We pride ourselves on fostering an incredible workplace at S1 Technology. We believe that we'd be nothing without our fantastic team, which is why we make dang sure to focus a lot of time and energy into building the culture at S1!

We're always hiring and we're always looking for the best!

Why Should You Even Care?
  • We want to build a lasting, great, and enduring company that will outlive its owners.
  • We exist to help small businesses leverage the power of technology to succeed.
  • You'll always know why you're here, and what your ultimate focus will be because that's why we exist. We aren't on a mission, because those end; instead, it's our purpose. You'll participate in the success of dozens of small businesses.

S1 Technology is committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and compliant workplace for our employees and the clients we serve. As a condition of employment, all offers are contingent upon the successful completion of the following, where applicable to the position:

  • Background Check: Candidates may be required to pass a comprehensive background check, which may include criminal history, employment verification, education verification, and reference checks. Given our work supporting clients with cybersecurity and compliance requirements (including CMMC), certain roles may require enhanced screening consistent with personnel security standards.
  • Drug Screening: S1 Technology maintains a drug-free workplace. Candidates for positions involving driving company or personal vehicles for business purposes, or accessing client sites and systems, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Employment Eligibility Verification (E-Verify): S1 Technology participates in E-Verify and will verify the identity and employment eligibility of all newly hired employees through this federal program.
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Check: For roles requiring travel to client locations, a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record may also be required.

All screenings will be conducted in accordance with applicable federal and Louisiana state law, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) where applicable. Candidates will receive appropriate disclosure and authorization forms prior to any background check being initiated, and will be notified of their rights under FCRA if adverse action is contemplated based on screening results.

This notice does not constitute an offer or guarantee of employment. All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of the applicable pre-employment screenings described above.
