Job description

Senior Embedded Software Engineer Develop and deploy embedded radar seeker software across ARM-based platforms from concept to production.

Location: Costa Mesa, California

Compensation: $191,000 - 253,000 USD / year

About The Role Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Costa Mesa, California, United States

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century's most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril's family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

About The Team

The Battlespace Awareness (BA) team develops state-of-theโ€‘art radar systems, deployed to tackle the most significant security challenges of America and its allies. Working across hardware, software, and firmware; in both the RF and digital domains; the team delivers radar architectures that enable advanced surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting in the contemporary and future battlespace. The Radar team is responsible for all aspects of radar system development; from concepts and architectures through to fielding and sustainment. In this role, you will work closely with an interdisciplinary technical team to define radar architectures, design solutions, build prototypes, perform testing, and mature the prototypes into products.

About The Job

We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our rapidly growing team in Costa Mesa, CA. In this role, you will be the tip of the spear for embedded software development supporting our nextโ€‘generation radar seeker products โ€” the component that makes the weapon successful in its mission. You will be responsible for fullโ€‘stack embedded development, including embedded code running on ARMโ€‘based microprocessors + hard processor cores (e.g. Microblaze, Nios) both in bareโ€‘metal and OSโ€‘based configurations, down to lowโ€‘level driver software controlling hardware at the bus level, enabling rapid fielding of capability for the warfighter. This will require expertise in embedded Linux, modern C++ and/or Rust, ARMโ€‘based architectures, and handsโ€‘on comfort with RF/digital test equipment. If you are a selfโ€‘directed engineer who thrives in fastโ€‘paced, smallโ€‘team environments without spoonโ€‘feeding, and you want to develop technology that defends America tomorrow โ€” not in 10 years โ€” then this role is for you.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and deploy embedded software across the full stack โ€” from applicationโ€‘level code on embedded processor cores down to drivers and lowโ€‘level mechanisms controlling hardware
  • Develop and maintain embedded Linux software for radar seeker systems using modern C++ and/or Rust
  • Write device drivers and firmware that interface with hardware over SPI, I2C, UART, and other lowโ€‘level buses for data transfer and peripheral control
  • Perform hardwareโ€‘software integration, board bringโ€‘up, and debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and RF/digital test equipment
  • Spend significant time onโ€‘site at Anduril facilities (weeks at a time) supporting integration, field testing, and realโ€‘world validation of products
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, RF, firmware, and systems engineers to deliver fully functional products
  • Troubleshoot complex issues that span the electrical and software boundaries
  • Operate autonomously within a small, fastโ€‘paced team โ€” driving development from concept through deployment without handโ€‘holding
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • Professional experience developing embedded software for production systems
  • Strong proficiency in modern C++ and/or Rust
  • Demonstrated expertise in embedded Linux development
  • Experience with ARM processors and traditional microprocessor architectures
  • Experience writing device drivers and lowโ€‘level software interfacing with hardware peripherals (SPI, I2C, UART, etc.)
  • Handsโ€‘on competence with digital test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debuggers
  • Selfโ€‘directed working style with ability to operate autonomously in a fastโ€‘paced environment with minimal oversight
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. exportโ€‘controlled information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with radar systems, signal processing, or RF sensing applications
  • Background in seeker development, missile/munitions systems, or other tactical defense products
  • Experience with RF test equipment such as VNAs, signal analyzers, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers
  • Familiarity with bootloaders, Board Support Packages (BSP), and RTOS environments
  • Experience with highโ€‘speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204)
  • Comfort with typical C++ tooling (CMake, GDB, Valgrind, etc.) and CI/CD workflows
  • Experience with Python for test automation and scripting
  • Familiarity with reproducible build systems such as Nix/NixOS
  • Background working at the hardwareโ€‘software boundary (board bringโ€‘up, integration, field testing)
  • Prior experience in defence, aerospace, or other highโ€‘reliability embedded domains
