You'll be joining Wabtec Bus Solutions, a team driving innovation in Transit Bus & Rail systems, including passenger door systems, wheelchair lifts & ramps, e-Bus charging systems, driver's protective barriers, and more. We blend technical expertise with deep product knowledge to deliver high-impact solutions for our customers and communities.
How will you make a difference?
As an experienced engineer within Wabtec Bus Solutions, you will drive design and development focused on a mix of major initiatives in embedded software development for different products, controls, & sensors. Reporting to the Engineering Manager or Supervisor, you will design and develop embedded software-based products, contribute to product development, and ensure compliance with engineering standards. Your role will include collaborating with peers, supporting design decisions, and executing engineering tasks aligned with project goals.
What do we want to know about you?
  • Bachelor's degree in computer or software engineering (Master's preferred; ABET accredited)
  • 6+ years of relevant experience and basic project management skills and ability to lead engineering based small sized projects or parts of projects
  • Working knowledge of embedded software design of systems and components including engineering & manufacturing principles, practices, and procedures
  • Working knowledge in APQP/NPD Stage Gate, DFMEA, RCA/8D's, & Engineering Analysis
  • Deep knowledge in embedded architecture/systems, safety standards, performance optimization, & system integration
  • Proficiency in Linux, C/C++, RTOS, and embedded debugging tools and familiarity with C#, python, JavaScript, HTML, & react
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

What will your typical day look like?
  • Design and develop embedded software systems, including controllers and sensors, per customer and technical requirements
  • Make design decisions to optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability and contribute to innovation, patents, or process improvement
  • Support embedded software designs from concept through production launch
  • Participate in DFMEA sessions and validation planning and follow APQP/NPD processes to ensure successful product launches
  • Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective actions for software and electrical issues
  • Evaluate specifications and performance needs to deliver cost-effective solutions and architect scalable, maintainable software for real-time embedded systems

What about the physical demands of the job?
  • Primarily office-based work and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to build, test, & inspect electro-mechanical systems and test systems in an office, lab, manufacturing environment, and/or on transit buses
  • Occasional travel (10%) to customers and manufacturing sites
  • You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

The salary rate for this role is currently $79300-113000 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
