What is an embedded contractor?

Embedded contractors are professionals who are hired on a contract basis to work directly within a client's organization, usually as part of an internal team. Unlike external consultants who provide advice from outside, embedded contractors are fully integrated into the company's day-to-day operations, often working on-site and collaborating closely with staff. They typically possess specialized skills required for specific projects or roles, such as software development, engineering, or project management. Embedded contractors can offer flexibility and expertise without the long-term commitment of hiring a full-time employee.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an embedded contractor?

To thrive as an Embedded Contractor, you need a solid background in embedded systems design, programming (typically in C/C++), and hardware/software integration, often backed by an engineering degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with microcontrollers, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and version control systems is essential, along with relevant certifications such as Certified Embedded Systems Engineer (CESE). Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication skills help contractors quickly integrate with new teams and projects. These skills are crucial for delivering reliable embedded solutions within tight deadlines and diverse environments.

What are common challenges faced by embedded contractors when working with new client teams?

Embedded Contractors often need to quickly adapt to new team dynamics, workflows, and technical environments. One common challenge is understanding the client's existing codebase and aligning with their development standards within a short onboarding period. Additionally, contractors must balance delivering results efficiently with building trust and clear communication among permanent team members. Proactively asking questions and clarifying expectations early on can help ensure a smoother transition and successful project outcomes.

Job Title: HR Manager
Location: Middletown, PA
Type: Direct Hire
Contractor Work Model: Onsite
Overview
We're looking for a hands-on, high-impact HR Professional to support our clients distribution center. This is not a desk-only HR role. This person will be embedded in the operation, working directly on the production floor, building relationships, solving problems in real time, and driving a strong employee experience.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. You'll act as a true partner to leadership-balancing strategic thinking with day-to-day execution to support business goals.
Important: This is a fully onsite role requiring flexibility, including one evening shift per week.
Responsibilities
Own and execute the full HR lifecycle for the distribution center, including:
  • Full-cycle recruiting in a high-volume environment (sourcing, interviewing, hiring)
  • New hire onboarding and orientation
  • Employee relations, including investigations and terminations
  • Coaching and advising managers on performance, engagement, and policy application
  • Training and development initiatives
  • Driving employee engagement and retention efforts
  • Managing leaves of absence (FMLA, ADA, Workers' Compensation, etc.)
  • Supporting safety initiatives in partnership with operations
  • Handling unemployment claims and case management
  • Auditing timekeeping and ensuring compliance
  • Leading HR presence on the production floor-building trust and accessibility with employees

Requirements
  • 6+ years of HR experience in a distribution, warehouse, or manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience in full-cycle HR within a high-volume setting
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • Hands-on experience managing complex leave cases (FMLA, ADA, Workers' Comp)
  • Comfortable working directly on the production floor and engaging with employees at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and sound judgment
  • A proactive, approachable, and solution-oriented mindset
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including one evening per week
  • Ability to work onsite full-time
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience with timekeeping systems preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
