Email Design information

What is email design?

Email design is the process of creating visually appealing and effective layouts for emails that are sent to subscribers, customers, or clients. It involves elements such as layout structure, color schemes, fonts, images, and calls-to-action to ensure the message is clear and engaging. Good email design also takes into account responsiveness, so emails display well on different devices, and accessibility, making content readable for all users. The goal is to enhance user experience, increase engagement, and drive the desired action from recipients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an email designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Email Designer, you need a solid understanding of HTML/CSS, responsive design concepts, and visual design principles, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with email marketing platforms like Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor and tools such as Adobe Creative Suite is typically expected. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication help deliver engaging, on-brand content that resonates with recipients. These skills ensure that email campaigns are visually compelling, technically functional across devices, and drive the desired marketing results.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in email design, and how can they be addressed?

Email designers often encounter challenges such as ensuring designs render consistently across various email clients, managing responsive layouts for different devices, and adhering to branding while maintaining accessibility. To address these, designers typically use email-specific HTML/CSS frameworks, thoroughly test emails in multiple clients, and stay updated on best practices for accessibility and deliverability. Collaboration with marketers, developers, and copywriters is key to creating effective, visually appealing campaigns that achieve business goals.

Job description

Senior Digital Designer, Lifecycle & CRM

About Softline Solutions

Softline Solutions is a full-service digital marketing agency that helps small and mid-sized businesses grow online by increasing visibility, generating leads, and boosting sales. We build tailored, data-driven campaigns for household brands like Closets by Design , Closet World , and Brio .

Our philosophy is simple: we focus on measurable growth , not buzzwords. We manage everything from strategy to execution, ensuring our clients see a direct impact on their bottom line.

About the role

We are seeking a high-performing Senior Digital Designer to own the visual execution of our Lifecycle and CRM workstream. Reporting to the Associate Creative Director, you will be the lead Individual Contributor (IC) responsible for architecting the customer journey through high-converting email and SMS experiences.

You understand that email design is a blend of psychology, data, and technical precision. You aren't just making "pretty" templates; you are building lead nurture flows, post-purchase series, and win-back campaigns that directly impact revenue. You are a master of mobile-first hierarchy and thrive in an environment where your work is constantly tested and optimized.

What you'll do

  • Full-Funnel Execution: Design end-to-end CRM journeys, including complex automated flows (Welcome, Abandoned Cart, Re-engagement) and high-volume broadcast campaigns.
  • Conversion-Centric Design: Prioritize click-through rates and conversions over aesthetic fluff. You’ll use data from the CRM team to iterate on layouts, CTA placements, and messaging.
  • A/B Testing & Optimization: Work within a rigorous testing framework to design variants for subject lines, hero imagery, and layout structures to build a documented "playbook" of what works for each brand.
  • Technical Excellence: Build with an expert understanding of email rendering, dark mode optimization, accessibility, and the specific constraints of enterprise-level ESPs.
  • Agile Production: Utilize Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and agile tools like Canva to maintain a high-velocity output without sacrificing quality.
  • AI Integration: Leverage Generative AI (Firefly, Gemini, and node-based AI) to personalize content at scale, enhance imagery, and accelerate production workflows.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of digital design experience, with a heavy focus on CRM, Email, and Lifecycle marketing.
  • ESP Literacy: Deep familiarity with the technical requirements of platforms like Klaviyo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, or similar enterprise ESPs.
  • Design Toolkit: * Mastery of Figma and Adobe Creative Suite .
  • High proficiency in Klaviyo for rapid-turn assets and collaborative templates.
  • Gen AI Mastery: Demonstrated ability to use Generative AI (Firefly, Gemini, and node-based workflows) to optimize workflows and enhance creative output.
  • Mobile-First Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of responsive design, email-safe fonts, and mobile-first hierarchies.
  • Data Fluency: Ability to look at a campaign report and translate "low CTR" into a visual solution.
  • Portfolio: Must include case studies highlighting full-funnel email campaigns and evidence of how you used testing data to improve performance.
  • Note to Applicants: Please include a link to your portfolio. We are specifically looking for "Before/After" examples of how your design iterations moved the needle on key metrics like Open Rates or CTRs.

The pay range for this role is:

75,000 - 120,000 USD per year (Softline HQ)
