Job description

Overview

This position will join the Provider Communications team within Corporate Affairs in the Corporate Communications department. This position is responsible for producing communications for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network healthcare provider stakeholders and the employees who serve them. Working closely with internal subject matter experts, this position carries out writing, editing and production tasks to complete these communications.


The successful candidate will have superior technical writing skills, a highly inquisitive and detail-oriented mind, experience with fast-paced change, and the ability to meet deadlines, and create and maintain positive relationships with subject matter experts. Responsible to write, edit and proofread content for a variety of highly visible internal and/or external communications.


Responsibilities

  • Research and produce communications content that is informational, educational and drives engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal and external audiences about communications content.
  • Support the development of communication plans and timelines.
  • Maintain an understanding of the corporate communications strategy and standards to support the development of communication plans that support strategic initiatives.
  • Proofread internal and external communications content for clarity, tone, style and grammar to ensure communications are high quality and results oriented.
  • Research targeted audiences and suggest communication channels.
  • Create and maintain a mass communications database and design of electronic media.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to internal team members and leadership.
  • Generate ideas to improve communication processes and delivery methods.
  • Support complex projects as assigned.
  • Research various subject matter, interview experts with a high attention to detail and maintain positive working relationships across the company.
  • Format documents following corporate templates and brand guidelines.
  • Write letters, emails and faxes and coordinate the process for sending them, including obtaining and manipulating mailing lists as needed.
  • Archive all communications with subject matter expert, Corporate Editor and Legal approvals as needed. File and log documents following team procedures.

Requirements

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships across the enterprise and exhibit flexibility and a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment with continuous change.
  • High level of self-motivation and excellent critical thinking skills with the ability to grasp new information quickly.
  • Comfort with technology and the ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Knowledge of AP style guidelines, preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Blue Cross provider portal, Blue Cross and BCN provider newsletters and manuals, products and policies, healthcare and digital communications, preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Acrobat Professional, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel and Snagit software, preferred. 
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field is required.
  • Five (5) years of professional communications experience is required.
  • Previous experience working in the healthcare industry is preferred.
  • Advanced copywriting, editing and written communication skills.
  • Advanced oral communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word and PowerPoint skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of multimedia technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships within the organization and community.
  • Ability to comprehend complex company documents, procedures and policies and distill these into easy-to-understand content.
