Job description

Position Description
As an Assistant Director for Financial Aid, you will play a vital role in assisting students and their families in navigating the complex landscape of financial aid and funding options for higher education. Your primary responsibility will be to provide comprehensive guidance, support, and resources to help students achieve their educational goals without being burdened by excessive financial stress. You will serve as a knowledgeable and empathetic resource, addressing inquiries, offering personalized advice, and ensuring that students are well-informed about the various financial aid programs available to them. In addition, serving as a senior leadership member, you assist with student and family escalations while also managing a team of Advisors. This would include completing performance evaluations, training, assistance prioritizing work, reporting on progress and success and suggesting improvements for the team and its work.
Major/Essential Functions
Reporting to the AVP for Financial Aid and Scholarships, this position will provide operational and data support to the Financial Aid team by coordinating with EM IT to manage Banner student financial aid information. This position serves as the primary liaison between Financial Aid and Scholarships, EM Information Technology, and external agencies, and is instrumental in aligning system capabilities with institutional enrollment and student success goals, serving as a functional and technical support for SFAS.
  • Serve as a key support resource for the Financial Aid Systems team by assisting with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of financial aid systems (Banner) and related processes.
  • Translate federal and state regulations into system configurations and business processes.
  • Serve as the primary functional lead and primary liaison to EM IT for Banner in the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office, including setup, configuration, rule tables, population selection, and job submission.
  • Support annual rollover activities, new aid year setup, and ongoing Banner maintenance.
  • Partner with EM IT and functional offices to manage Banner upgrades, patches, testing, and implementations.
  • Troubleshoot Banner processing issues, analyze errors, and implement corrective solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows through Banner functionality and improved automation
  • Lead testing and validation of new processes, regulatory updates, and system enhancements prior to production release.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on accuracy, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Train financial aid and scholarship end users on Banner functionality to improve productivity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Extensive experience with Banner set up, implementation, and process development
  • Experience leading system implementations or major upgrades

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Three years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
