JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE ELL Teacher
REPORTS TO Building Administrator
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in education
  • State of Iowa teaching certification
  • Mandatory Reporter: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse certification
  • Must clear criminal record check and child and dependent adult abuse check (unless on Initial License)
  • Able to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work
  • Able to work independently and/or as a team
  • Able to recognize problems, determine causes, and take appropriate action
  • ELL endorsement (willing to accept conditional license)
  • Knowledge of socio-cultural variables in the instructional setting
  • Skill in elementary and secondary teaching methods and student assessment

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administer screening and proficiency assessments, TELPA and IELDA as necessary
  • Provide leadership in the implementation of the ESL Program and delivery of services to students
  • Teach students in flexible groups, in classrooms, and individually, depending on needs
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers who seek assistance in providing appropriate curricula for EL students
  • Plan and implement communication procedures that help parents and classroom teachers become knowledgeable about the EL program
  • Assist with the selection of appropriate teaching methods and materials for English Language Learners
  • Participate in the evaluation of students' achievements and provides feedback
  • Coordinate educational planning for identified students
  • Coordinate the identification process at the building level
  • Participate in staff development, team meetings, and parent meetings
  • Communicate with parents, students, and teachers regarding identified students' needs
  • Organize resources at the building level and provide for a system to get materials to students and staff
  • Keep informed of the requirements governing the education of English Language Learners
  • Maintain records and data regarding student information

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Capable of standing for long periods of time while instructing
  • Able to work with interruptions during a work shift
