Job description

Hutchinson Public Schools is looking for an English Language Learner (ELL) Education Assistant & Student Supervisor at the Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year and beyond.

The ELL Education Assistant works in close cooperation with a team of ELL teachers and interpreters providing academic and language assistance to ensure a successful educational experience.  The ELL Education Assistant will provide classroom support for English learner students. This position will work 6.5 hours per day from 7:30am - 2:30pm, 171 days per school year. This includes 6 hours each day as an ELL Education Assistant and 30 minutes each day as a Student Supervisor. The Student Supervisor monitors students during non-classroom activities (lunch), ensuring that school rules are followed to maintain student safety. 

Candidates proficient in a second language, preferably Spanish, are encouraged to apply. 

The salary range for this position is $19.64 per hour - $22.14 per hour. Salary is dependent upon education and experience. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong professional relationships with ELL students and their families.
  • Maintain confidentiality standards by adhering to the district's data privacy policy.
  • Conferring and planning with teachers and other district staff to recommend ideas, identify problems, and aid in problem-solving.
  • Help to reinforce teachings of the classroom teacher by working with students on a one to-one basis or in small groups.
  • Help students to strengthen language and grade-level content skills to become more independent.
  • Help the classroom teacher with recordkeeping of the student's progress. Conducts informal assessments to measure students' mastery of learned materials as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Attend meetings and in-service for staff development. Follow suggestions made by classroom teachers, principal, and others who may provide staff development.
  • Ability to provide verbal interpretation and written translation services as needed across the district including during the school day, during school events such as Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Family Night, etc is preferred.
  • Provide supervision during lunch.

  • Associates Degree
  • 60 semester college credits
  • Passing score on one of the state-approved tests (ParaEducator or ParaPro)
  • Competency Grid (can be completed upon hire)
