Elixir Engineer information

Can I make 200k a year as a software engineer?

Elixir engineers with significant experience, specialized skills, and working in high-cost-of-living areas can potentially earn $200,000 or more annually. Factors such as industry, company size, location, and expertise in tools like Phoenix framework influence salary levels. Senior roles with advanced knowledge of functional programming and scalable systems are more likely to reach this compensation range.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Elixir Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Elixir Engineer, you need strong programming skills in Elixir and the Erlang/OTP ecosystem, along with a solid understanding of functional programming principles and concurrent system design. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, experience with Phoenix Framework, and knowledge of deployment tools such as Docker are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help you work effectively within development teams and address complex technical challenges. These skills and qualities are essential for building scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications in fast-paced software environments.

Is Elixir a high level language?

Elixir is a high-level programming language designed for building scalable and maintainable applications, especially in distributed systems. As an Elixir engineer, understanding its high-level abstractions and functional programming paradigm is essential for effective development.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Senior engineers in high-demand fields such as software engineering, especially those with expertise in specialized areas like machine learning, cloud infrastructure, or blockchain, can earn $500,000 or more annually. These roles often require extensive experience, advanced skills, and sometimes leadership responsibilities or equity compensation.

Common Search IntentElixir Engineer vs Ruby Developer

Elixir Engineers and Ruby Developers often share similar credentials and work environments, but they focus on different programming languages and application types. Elixir Engineers specialize in scalable, real-time systems using Elixir, while Ruby Developers typically work on web applications with Ruby on Rails. Both roles are vital in modern software development, but their industry applications and technical focuses differ.

What is an Elixir Engineer?

An Elixir Engineer is a software developer who specializes in building and maintaining applications using the Elixir programming language. Elixir is known for its concurrency, scalability, and fault-tolerance, making it a popular choice for real-time web applications, distributed systems, and backend services. Elixir Engineers often work with the Phoenix framework and are responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-performance applications. They may also optimize existing code, ensure system reliability, and collaborate with teams to implement best practices.

How does an Elixir Engineer typically collaborate with other team members in a software development environment?

As an Elixir Engineer, you will often work closely with backend and frontend developers, DevOps engineers, and product managers to design and deliver scalable applications. Collaboration is usually facilitated through regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and pair programming sessions, especially when integrating Elixir services with other parts of a system. You may also be responsible for writing technical documentation and assisting in onboarding team members less familiar with Elixir. Open communication and a willingness to share knowledge are key, as Elixir teams often prioritize code quality and functional programming best practices.

How much do elixir developers make?

Elixir developers typically earn between $80,000 and $130,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and skill level. Senior developers with expertise in distributed systems and functional programming can earn higher salaries, especially in tech hubs or companies using Elixir for scalable applications.

Job description

Job Summary:
Podium is a company that brings AI Employees to local businesses, enhancing their revenue through effective lead conversion. They are seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to own features end-to-end and collaborate closely with product and design teams, while also mentoring others in the process.
Responsibilities:
• You'll own features end-to-end, from the first design conversation to production, on a platform thousands of businesses rely on every day.
• You'll influence architecture, collaborate closely with product and design, and help keep our systems reliable as we scale.
• You'll also invest in the people around you: sharing knowledge, reviewing code, and raising the team's collective ceiling.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 7+ years building and shipping production systems, full stack.
• A track record of owning problems end-to-end, not just executing tickets, but defining and delivering.
• Strong instincts across the stack: you're comfortable going deep on backend logic, database design, and frontend UX in the same sprint.
• Fluency with relational databases and search fundamentals.
• A hands-on, daily relationship with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) - you've figured out how to move meaningfully faster with them.
Preferred:
• Experience at a fast-moving startup or SaaS company.
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts: queues, event-driven architecture, horizontal scaling.
• Exposure to our current stack (Elixir/Phoenix, React, PostgreSQL), or genuine curiosity to pick it up fast.
• A genuine interest in helping teammates grow.
Company:
Podium designs and develops an AI-powered lead generation and management platform that helps to interact and convert more leads. Founded in 2014, the company is headquartered in Lehi, USA, with a team of 1001-5000 employees. The company is currently Late Stage.
