Elevator Utility - Spokane, WA
This is a non-exempt level position.
Position Summary:
The Grain Elevator Utility position is responsible for supporting daily grain elevator operations, including receiving, handling, storing, and loading grain. This role assists with equipment operation, facility housekeeping, preventative maintenance, and safety procedures to ensure efficient and safe elevator operations.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform general labor duties related to grain receiving, storage, handling, and loading
  • Operate grain handling equipment such as conveyors, legs, augers, scales, and grain probes
  • Assist with unloading grain trucks and railcars
  • Assist with loading grain into trucks and railcars
  • Monitor grain movement and report equipment issues or operational concerns
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Sweep, shovel, and clean grain spills in work areas, bins, pits, and around equipment
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and facilities
  • Inspect equipment and work areas for safety hazards
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Use proper personal protective equipment while performing job duties
  • Assist with grain sampling, grading, and moisture testing as needed
  • Support inventory control and grain quality procedures
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in dusty environments as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
Required Skills:
  • Ability to safely operate or learn to operate grain handling equipment
  • Strong attention to safety and detail
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials up to 50lbs
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and seasonal hours as needed
Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Required Experience:
  • Previous experience working in a labor, agricultural, industrial, warehouse, or production environment
  • Experience following workplace safety procedures
  • Experience using hand tools or basic equipment
Desired Experience:
  • Previous grain elevator or grain handling experience
  • Experience operating skid steers, forklifts, loaders, or other industrial equipment
  • Experience with preventative maintenance or basic mechanical repairs
  • Experience working around railcars and commercial trucks
  • Knowledge of grain grading, sampling, or quality procedures

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
The pay for this position is expected to be:
The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements. Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in a 401(k) plan as well as participate in Company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee's eligible dependents.
Employees will also receive: a minimum of 20 hours of vacation per year, which will increase as years of service increases, 40 hours of paid sick leave will be provided annually on January 1, 10 paid holidays throughout the calendar year, and 1 personal holiday through the calendar year for colleagues with at least 6 months of continuous service. Eligible employees may also take up to 4 weeks of paid parental leave. Eligible employees may also take up to 26 weeks of short-term disability and transition to long-term disability, if applicable.
