This is an ongoing search for VHT Consultants with Henderson Building Solutions. Current opportunities may be available in Lenexa, KS; Chantilly, VA; and Dallas, TX.ย  If you're an elevator and escalator professional looking to transition into a consulting role or continue growing your consulting career, we'd love to hear from you. This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of modernization, assessment, and new construction projects across commercial, healthcare, education, government, and other markets.

Position Summary

The VHT Consultant II supports the design, assessment, modernization, and execution of elevator and escalator consulting projects throughout the project lifecycle. This role partners with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and internal teams to develop practical, code-compliant vertical transportation solutions for new and existing facilities. The VHT Consultant II is responsible for conducting field assessments, developing modernization and design documents, managing project-level client relationships, and providing technical expertise throughout project execution. This role also contributes to project planning, scheduling, quality reviews, and business development while helping ensure successful project delivery. This position offers a combination of field work, technical design, client interaction, and collaboration in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and requires strict adherence to all applicable elevator field safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct field assessments, audits and surveys.ย ย 
  • Develop maintenance and modernization specifications tailored to client needs.ย ย 
  • Analyze and interpret submittals, shop drawings and performance data.ย ย 
  • Produce accurate VHT-specific construction drawings.ย 
  • Confidentlyย interpretย construction drawings with minimal oversight.ย ย 
  • Develop new elevator design solutions, coordinate with architects/MEP engineers, and integrate requirements into project documentationย 
  • Conduct traffic analyses using Elevate or equivalent software, interpret results and prepare recommendations.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects.ย ย 
  • Lead client meetingsย independently.ย 
  • Deliver solutions-focused communication and tailored technical recommendations.ย ย 
  • Write and refine reports, narratives, and proposals.ย ย 
  • Prepareย basicย specification and design documentationย 
  • Mark upย / comment onย contractor submittals, drawings, and data for compliance and functionalityย 
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews and contribute to project coordination meetings.ย 
  • Coordinate effectively with design disciplines to ensure integration.ย ย 
  • Review work less experienced consultants and contribute to quality control.ย ย 
  • Actively participate in design reviews and internal sessions.ย ย 
  • Review and refine new design deliverables to ensure alignment with codes and client requirementsย 
  • Maintain timely documentation using internal systems and tools (ClickUp, Bluebeam, Procore).ย 
  • Contribute to RFP responses and participate in client pitches.ย ย 
  • Cultivate new opportunities through professional networks.ย ย 
  • Assist with project scoping and resource planning at the discipline level.ย ย 
  • Highlight and communicate new design capabilities in client pursuits.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3โ€“5 years of experience in the elevator/escalator industry (OEM, maintenance, modernization) with a related bachelor's degree, or 7 or more years of experience in the elevator/escalator industry without a related bachelor's degree.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME A17.1, A17.2, NFPA 70, and IBC.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Bluebeam, and project platforms such as ClickUp and Procore.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
  • Experience writing or reviewing specifications.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, or other site safety credentials.

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Regular travel to client sites and construction zones.ย 
  • Must be able toย traverseย ladders and access hoist ways, pits, and mechanical rooms.ย 
  • Exposure to typical jobsite conditions: noise, dust, and moving equipment.ย 
  • Ability to move up to 50 lbs. and work in confined or elevated spaces.
