Teaching assistants also contribute to creating a positive and effective learning environment for young children.

Job description

Cornerstone School is a dynamic Pre 3 to elementary 5th grade Chinese-English bilingual immersion school located in Palo Alto, California. We are dedicated to providing a rigorous academic program while deeply integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Executive Functioning development, and character education. Our mission is to cultivate curious, confident, and compassionate global citizens in a warm, highly supportive community.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Bilingual Teaching Assistant (Mandarin/English) to join our collaborative educational team. In this role, you will work closely with our lead teachers to foster a positive, engaging, and culturally rich classroom environment. You will play a crucial part in supporting student learning, facilitating small group activities, and helping young learners develop both their academic skills and their internal motivation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Support: Assist the lead teacher in implementing the bilingual curriculum and executing daily lesson plans.
  • Student Engagement: Provide one-on-one and small group support to reinforce concepts in math, language arts, and social sciences.
  • SEL & Behavior Support: Model and support our Social-Emotional Learning framework (e.g., helping students navigate their "emotional traffic lights" and build a growth mindset).
  • Operational Assistance: Prepare teaching materials, assist with classroom organization, and help manage student transitions, recess, and lunch supervision.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively and professionally with teachers, staff, and administration to ensure student success.

Requirements

Language Skills: Native-level fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).

Experience: Previous experience working with elementary or preschool-aged children in an educational, camp, or child-care setting is highly preferred.

Attributes: Exceptional patience, a warm demeanor, strong collaborative skills, and a genuine love for early childhood and elementary education.

Legal Status: Authorized to work in the United States.

Benefits

A deeply supportive, collaborative, and professional teaching community.

Opportunities for professional development in bilingual pedagogy and SEL integration.

Competitive compensation and a positive work environment.
