Description
The Walker School Contract Position
Do you light up when a student finally gets it?
Do you believe math should be hands-on, joyful, and accessible to every learner?
The Walker School is seeking a Multisensory Math Tutor who brings passion, creativity, and heart to helping students unlock their mathematical confidence. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with elementary and middle school learners in a supportive, relationship-centered environment where tutors are trusted professionals and valued partners in each child's success.
What Makes This Role Special
At Walker, tutoring is not one-size-fits-all. You'll design meaningful learning sessions that meet students where they are, using manipulatives, visual models, structured routines, and the Concrete-Representational-Abstract framework to make math come alive. Our Learning Support Team collaborates closely with tutors, ensuring you have the insights, tools, and guidance needed to help each student progress.
This role is ideal for an educator who:
  • Thrives on building relationships with students and families
  • Knows how to turn math challenges into "aha" moments
  • Enjoys creating personalized, multisensory learning experiences
  • Understands how retrieval, memory, and conceptual gaps impact learning
  • Wants the flexibility and autonomy of a contract tutoring position
  • Is energized by helping students discover confidence through mastery

Training in Marilyn Zecher's Multisensory Math approach, or similar multisensory math training, is a major plus, and tutors with a deep understanding of CRA instruction and structured math interventions will feel right at home.
Who You'll Work With

  • Lower and Middle School Learning Specialists
  • Classroom teachers
  • Parents and caregivers
  • Students in grades 1 through 8

Your work will directly support students identified by the Learning Support Team.
Compensation
Tutors are paid hourly by families at a rate approved by The Walker School's Learning Support Team.
